IRA ROBBINS, OFV HUGHESVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 68,531, dated September 3, 1867.
titte -tlgthule rtfrttrt tain time ettcts ntent mit mating pitt nt tige time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, IRA ROBBINS, of Hughesville, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Alarm Money-Drawer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and enact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the sume, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i
The nature of` this invention consists i`n the arrangement upon the under side of an alarm money-drawer of a series of spring-keys, which will cause the bolts to fall, and allow the drawer toibo opened by turning and pulling the handle thereof.
Figure 1 is a section of the alarm money-drawer through the line x Figure 2 is a section of the same through the line y y; and
Figure 3 is a plan of the same, bottom side up, withpart broken away to show inside of the drawer'.A
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This drawer has five or more sliding-keys a, attached to the bottom of the drawer by the staples b b, through which they slide. Each of these sliding-keys ct has a separate spiral spring attachedat its end and to the bottom of the drawer.4 Each of the keys a has a pin, e, near its end, andwhich pins extndthrough a slot in the bottom of the drawer, andfit into recesses in the bottoms of the incline sliding-rest el, on which the bolts e stand. These bolts have a groeve on their tops, in which the rod f rests, which is attachedfto the spring g, which is pivoted to the side otlthe drawer; and as the bolts e are lowered they will let the pivoted spring g fall below the bell-hammer h,'and thus avoid the ring of the bell, which would otherwise happen as the drawer was pulled open. Ingthe' till or table where this drawer is used the bell t' and spring-hammer h are fixed, and also the two hinged plates m and n, which the bolts e will catch against, and prevent the drawer from being opened, unless all the bolts are drawn down. The keys a may either' be numbered or lettered; and by removing and changing the positions of the five bolts one hundred and twenty different names or numbers may be made use of by the system of permutation. By pulling outward the keys a the pins c operate, through the slotted bottom of the drawer, to pull forward the inclines d, upon which the bolts e rest, whereby the latter are allowed to drop or be lowered for the purpose of letting the pivoted spring g fall to clear the bell-hammer t. o is a block to prevent the'drawer from being drawn out beyond the cross-piece or division p. The handle ofthe drawer is fixed to the trod q, which extends down the drawer, through thel cross-piece p, and has a circular collar, r, attached to it, with one side flattened, so that it has to be-turned flat side uppermost in order to pass the hinged plate n.
` Havingthus described my invention,'what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- 1. I claim the sliding-keys a, the incline rest d, and bolts e, acting in the manner and for the purpose sub stantially as shown and described. I
2. I also claim the collar t', as attached to the handle oi' the drawer, operating in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
IRA ROBBINS.
