IMPROVED SCREW-PLATE FOR CUTTING SGREWS.
@its Sdgtbnie nftmh in in tigen idtits @dem mit mating pint nf tige time'.
T ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY GILL, ot' Mansfield, in the county of Richland, find Stute of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Screw-Plate for Cutting Screws; and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings hereinafter referred to, forms :t full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature andv principles of my said improvements, by which my invention mziy be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim end' desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent. I I
This invent-ion consists in providing o screw-plate with circular dies fitted in sliding oiadjustable plates,
which are placed on guide-rods secured in a stock, and all arranged in such a manner that the dies may be turned, so that a. fresh or new cutting-surface mnynlways be obtained whenever the dies become worn at one point. These circular dies ore attened'or cut off, so a-s to have plane surfaces to admit of the dies working or cutting up to a. shoulder on :i bolt or rod. In the accompanyingr sheet of drawings- 'Figure 1 represents a side view of my invention.
Figure 2, a. transverse sectiono` the some, tzr-ken in the line a; x; fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. j
A represents the stock of the screw-plate, provided with two handles, a a, find having- :L rectangular opening at its centre, in which two plu-tes, BB', are fitted on guide-rods c e. In these plates BB dies C C are fitted, the axes of which extend into or have their bearings in the plates, the dies beingl secured or prevented from turning by means of set-screws d which pass into the plates, and bear against the axes of the dies. The dies C C are of circular form, or may be described as circles with e portion or segment out off to form plone surfaces, 'as shown at e e in iig. 2. A screw, D, passes through one side oi' the stock, and bears against the plate B, .the dies being `set to suit the diameter of the rod on which the screw is to be out by turning the screw D.
From the above description it Will be seen that when the dies C C become worn at any particular point, they mnyg-bylooseningjthe set-screws d ci, be turned so as to obtain a fresh or new cutting surface; and by having the dies provided with plone surfaces e e they may be mode to eut up closely to shoulders or heads on a rod or bolt. This screw-plete muy be constructed at e very smell cost, and the dies -will last u long time, owing to the length or extent of their cutting surfaces.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure hy' Letters Potent-f The circular dies C C, with planevsurfuces e e, arranged, adjusted, und held in position in the manner substantially asond for the purpose specied.
HENRY GILL.
