A 7TOHNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.-
JULES DECIIAUX, OF GIBSON, LOUISIANA.
SHUTTER-BLIND FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent N0. 684,198, dated October 8, 1901.
Application filed February 11, 1901. Seria-l No. l16,808. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULES DECHAUX, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gibson, in the parish of Terrebonne and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Shutter-Blind Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact deseription.
This invention relates to a device for holding the slats or blinds of Window-shutters at any adjustment which may be desired; Y and to this end it comprises a disk or plate of ,certain hereinafter-described peculiar construction fastened to one of the slats through the medium of flanges embracing the slat, such disk Workin g with a spring-bolt which is mounted on the framing or rigid part of the' shutter.
This specification is a specific description of one form of the invention, while the claim is a definition of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is an elevation of the invention, showing it applied to a shutter. Fig. 2 is an irregular section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation, the section being on the line 3 3 of Fig. l; and Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, except that the parts are shown in a different adjustment.
a represents the framing of the shutter, and b the slats, which are pivotally mounted in the frame in the usual manner. These slats are connected together by a bar, (not shown,) which construction is generally employed and by means of which the slats move in unison, so that by fastening one slat all of the slats will be held.
c represents a plate or disk which is fastened to one of the slats b. This plate is here shown to be circular in form and lies at one end of the slot to which it is fastened, the plate being secured to the slat by means of iianges c', which are formed on or secured to the disk c and lie on opposite sides of the slat l), the flanges being riveted or bolted thereto. To facilitate applying the disk to shutters already constructed without necessitating taking the frame a ofthe shutter apart, I form the disk or plate c with a radial slot c2, which Vtive sides of the slot.
extends from its outer edge inward to the center thereof. Through this slot projects a stud or trunni'on b on the slat b, by which stud the slat is mounted to rock, the stud bearing in the frame ct in the usual manner. Now it Will be seen, assuming that all of the parts of the -shutter are in proper connection, that the plate c may be easily placed in position by sliding the plate so that the slot c2 receives the trunnion b and permits the plate to move into position with its iiangs c' at the respec- When this has been done, the iianges c may be fastened to the slat as desired.
The plate or disk c is provided .en its periphery with a number of notches c3. These notches are adapted to receive the bolt d, by which the slats are held. This bolt is carried in a casing e, fastened to the framing a in juxtaposition to the disk c. The bolt d is provided with a thumb d to permit its operation, and a spring d2, arranged Within the casing e, presses the bolt d to normal or'active position. The bolt d may be introduced into any one of the openings d2 in the disk c by turning the disk so as to place the desired opening opposite the bolt, and it will therei fore be seen that by adjusting the disk i-n this manner the slats b will be also adjusted, and when the desired adjustment has been attained the parts may be locked by engaging the bolt d with the disk or plate c, as described.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters JULES DECHAUX.
