HENRY STONE, OF VILL-IAMSBURG, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 68,256, @fated August 27,1867
IMPROVED GRATER.
@Ligt-Sagitta referat tu in time ntima iiteut mit mating and uf tige time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
i Be it knoavn that I, HENRY STONE, of Williamsburg7 Kings county, New York, have inventeda new and improved Grater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and useth'e saine` reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The present invention consists of a grater intended more particularly for grating stove-blacking or polish which is manufactured in solid lumps or cakes. In the accompanying plate of drawings, my improved grateris illustrated- Figure 1 being a central longitudinal vertical section through the gra-ter, and
Figure 2 a` partial cross-section and end view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
l A, in the drawings, represents a rectangular-shaped case or box, which at one end, B, is partially closed by a plate, O, but at the other is left entirely open. The top plate D of thebox A is perforated similar to the ordinary grater for-n'utmegs. E, a hollow cylinder hung in longitudinal slots a, cutin the side pieces or plates F of the box or case A. This cylinder is. closed at each end, but upon its side is perforated or punctured so as to form a surface suitable for grating stove-polish, blacking. etc. G, a crank-handle secured to cylinder E for lconvenience in turning it. H, a drawer arranged to slide uponthe box or case A, over its under or bottom plate I. This box is intended as a receptacle for holding the blacking as it is removed or grated from the grate into which it is formed, by the action of the grating-cyinder E thereon, when properly turned therefor, the cake of blacking being placed in the open end of the box A, where -it comes to a rest upon the grating-cylinder E, as shown in the drawings, fig. 1. After the cake of blacking has been grated by the rotating cylinder E as far as it will admit, the portion remaining is then grated upon the grating-plate, constituting the top of the box or case A.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A grater, consisting of boxA, grating-cylinder, and drawer, all constructed and combined together, substantially as described.
HENRY STONE.
