Be it known that I,JAMES BAPTISTE BAILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montebello, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Lines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in those metallic clothes-lines which dispense with the use of clothes-pins and which are formed of similar sections of desired length secured together.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of myinvention, and in which- Figure 1 is a view showing the device in use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of two links. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the links open.

Referring to said figures by numerals of reference, 1 represents triangular pulleys mounted in a vertical plane on brackets 2,supported by posts or uprights 2. Two of these pulleys are preferably used, and a line of the construction hereinafter described is mounted in the grooves of the pulleys and adapted to be moved by the revolution thereof. This line is formed of links 3, of peculiar construction. Each of these links is preferably formed of a single piece of galvanized spring metal comprising a strip 4., bent upon itself to provide an elongated loop 5, and a rebent portion r, said rebent portion being twisted about the strip 4 and bent upward at an angle thereto in a plane at right angles to the plane of the loop 5, forming a stem 6. This stem is provided with a head 7, substantially parallel to the main strip 4, and limits the outward movement of the opposite end of said strip 4, which end is coiled at 8, forming an arm which terminates in a loop 9, which incloses the stem 6 between the strip 4 and the head 7. The coil 8 of each section of the line is adapted to receive the loops 5 of the adjacent section or link, and in this manner a continuous line is produced, the heads 7 of which lie in approximately the same plane as the loops 9.

It will be seen that by this construction a garment may be readily suspended by simply depressing a loop 9 and slipping said garment between said loop and the head 7. It will be seen that as soon as the loop 9 is released the same will spring outward and clamp the garment against the head 7.

In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but Ido not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A clothes-line link comprising a strip formed at one end with a rebent twisted portion, a loop, a stem, and a head, and at the other end with a spring-coil and a loop surrounding the stem beneath the head.

2. In a clothes-line, a combined link and spring-clamp, formed in a single piece of metal and comprising a main strip having a loop at one end, a stem projecting from said strip, a head thereto, a coil at the opposite end of the strip, and a spring-arm thereto inclosing the stem and normally bearing upon the head.
