JOHN FERRAOIOLI, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BRoILEa.v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 678,235, dated July 9,' 1901.
` Applicationlednemter13,1900. Seriana. 39,643. (Normaal) To @ZZ whom it may cem/tern: l
Be it known that I, JOHN FERRACIOLI, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan,
in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Broiler, of'
of one form of the invention, while the claims are definitions of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to/the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure lis a perspective View of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.
The apparatus has a suitable casing a., in the bottom of which are arranged two oppositely-located tracks or slideways ct', which are continued outward in front of the body to form eXtension-slideways d2, as shown in Fig. 2. The front wall of the casing is formed with a large opening a3 therein, and in the lower part of the casing are situated two broiler-irons, (designated b and c, respectively.) A burner-case b' is arranged to carry the broiler-iron b, and a burner-case c is arranged to carry the broiler-iron c. These cases b and c are adapted to contain any suitable heating apparatus. .In the drawings Y I have shown gas-burners g and h supplied with gas through flexible tubes g and h; but obviously any other heating means could be employed, so that the broiler-irons h and c will be properly heated and the food placed between them thoroughly cooked. The case b has its top wall or broiler-iron b hinged to the case, so that by raising the iron b the burner mechanism may be placed in position and the gas lighted when desired. The front wall of the case c has an opening commanded by a lid c4, (see Fig. 1,) which facilitates lighting the burner g. VBoth of the cases c and b are perforated, as indicated at c5 and b5, so
that air to support combustion may enter the' cases. The burner-case h', with its iron b, is provided with wheels b2, which run on the tracks ot a2. provided for drawing the case h in and out, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2 and by full lines in Fig. l. The Wheels b2, running on the tracks Ct and a2, enable the case to'be moved back and forth to permit the food to be placed on and taken from the broiler-iron b. The burner-case c has its front wall projected up, as indicated at c2, this projection forming not only a closure for the opening a3, but also a means of guiding the movement of the burner-case c, which movement is vertical within the casing ot, as the dotted lines indicate. The casing a is formed at its sides directly adjacent to its front Wall with tracks at, which are engaged by wheels c3, carried on the extension c2 of the burner c. By these arrangements the burnercase c', with its 'attached broiler-iron, may be raised and lowered, so as to engage the iron e with and disengage it from the iron b, as desired. This movement of the casing c is brought about by the movement of the case b'. This is effected by levers d, which are two in number, fulcrumed, respectively,at the inner side walls of the casing a and having slotted lower ends, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, such slotted ends being engaged by pins Zcarried on the burn er-case b. The upper ends of the levers d are respectively connected with cords d', which pass over sheaves a5, mounted in the casing a, and thence downwardlto a connection with the upper end of the extension c2 of the burner-case c. W'hen the case b is drawn forwardly, the levers d are thrown on their fulcrums, and through the medium of the cords d the case c is raised. This case returns to its lowered position by force of gravity when the case h is pushed back into active position. For the purpose of assisting in raising the case c the levers d may be connected by cords e with a weight-bar @,which extends transversely across the case at the rear thereof, (see'Fig. 2,) the cords e passing over sheaves a, carried in the casing a. The casing is provided with an opening a7 in its top to permit the escape of gases from the casing, and, if desired, a clock f may be mounted on the top of the casing to enable the user A suitable handle h3 may beA IOO to conveniently observe the length of time that'the food is allowed to cook.
Various changes in the form and details of my invention may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit thereof, the principle lying in the two broiler-irons respectively carried by the cases which are to hold the heating apparatus, and one of such cases being movable toward and from the other to permit holding the food firmly and properly cooking it and the other iron being movable in a horizontal piane backward and forward to permit placing the food thereon.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- `1. A broiler, having` two broiler irons, burner-cases respectively carrying the same, a casing in which the burner-cases are mounted, the lower burner-case being arranged to iron being mounted to slide in a plane trans- 3o verse to the line of movement of the firstnamed iron.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN FERRACIOLI.
