Letters Patent No. 67,818, dated August 13, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN WRENGHES.
@the tlnhnlr nimm to in ilgrse hters lntnt mm limiting' pmt nf tige sume.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thatI, GEORGE C. TAFT, of Worcester, lVorcester county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wrenches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming` part of this specification, in which- Figure I is a side view of my improved wrench, partly in section, showing the swivel-head on the rosette- Figure 2 an end view.' v i Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. y
This invention relates to an improvement in wrenches,V and consists in attaching the head of the rosette to the stationary jaw of a wrench, by means of a swivel, in such manner that the serewmay turn freely in the sliding-jaw and move it back and forth as desired, and as will be hereinafter more particularly` described.
A is the main bar of a wrench, B the stationary jaw, C the ,sliding jaw, and D the rosette-screw, on the lower end of which is the middle thumb disk E, held to the main bar in a recess as usual. The stationary jaw B is slipped over the end of 'the-main bar A to rest on the end of the screw-thread, and may be ma-de fast or not, as desired. On the end of the rosette l), a round nut, a, is screwed or otherwise secured to form a swivel heed, by whichrthe rosette is held in the back part of the stationary jaw, and on which it turns freely. By this arrangementof the rosette with a swivel-head in the stationary jaw, it is manifest that by turning the screw the 4sliding-jew C will move upor down on themain bar, as desired. and thus clamp firmly any object placed between the jaws of' the wrench.l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent, is-
A wrench provided with a swivel attached to the end of the rosette, and fitted in thestationary jaw, substantially as set forth.
GEO. C. TAFT.
