UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THE STANDARD SANITARY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PITTSBURG,
PENNSYLVANIA DRAIN-B OARD.
' srEoIFIoATIoN forming part of Letters Patent No. evaoos, dated July 9, 190i. Application filed November 18, 1900. Serial No. 36,787. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. MCKINNEY, a resident of New Brighton, in the'county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drain-Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to drain-boards for sinks.
The object of my invention is to provide a drain-board of wood and metal especially adapted for use in connection with roll-rim sinks and adapted to be readilyapplied thereto without the necessity of cutting away any portion of the roll-rim and forming'a neat and perfect connection therewith.
To these ends my invention com prises, generally stated, a drain-board for sinks having the main body portion formed of wood and a metallic attachment secured to one end of said board, the metallic attachment being formed to conform to and flt over the end and front roll-rim of the sink in such a manner as to form a neat and close connection there- To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a suitable sink with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view ofa portion of the drain-board and rim of sink. Fig. at is a cross-section of the sink and giving an end View of the drain-board. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the drain-board.
Like figures indicate like parts in each.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated my invention as applied to a suitable roll-rim sink 2, formed of suitable metal and supplied with the customary outlet 3. This sink 2 may be supported by a suitable bracket 4 or in any other convenient manner.
The drain-board is composed of the main body portion 5, formed of wood and provided with the gutters or grooves 6, by means of which the water accumulating upon the drain= board is carried into the sink. At one end end of said body portion. A metallic attachment 8 is secured to the body portion 5- of 'thedrain-board, said attachment having the rib 9 extending longitudinally thereof and fitting within the groove 7 of the body portion 5. This rib 9 is provided at intervals with threaded seats 10, with which the tapscrews 11 engage, said tap-screws passing up through the body portion 5 and, when drawn up tight, holding the metallic attachment 8 securely and rigidly in place.
The main body portion 5 of the board is cut away at 12, so thatwhen the metallic attachment 8 is secured in place the upper face of said attachment will be flush with the body portion 5. The metallic attachment 8 is curved, as at 13, so as to conform with and fit neatly over the roll-rim let of the sink 2 at the end at which the drain-board is secured. The metallic attachment is further provided with the extension 15, which is also curved, as at 16, to fit around and conform to the front roll-rim 17 of the sink adjacent to the end thereof. The rear end of the metallic attachment is cut away, as at 18, to permit of said attachment fitting snugly aroundthe end of the rear splash-board 19. The metallic attachment is further provided with the guides 20, which act to direct the water flowing from the gutters 6 into the sink and prevent its escaping to the floor.
In applying my improved drain-board to a sink the outer end of the drain-board is supported at a slight incline in any suitable manner, as by bracket 22, and the metallic attachment fits over the end of the sink, the curved portion 13 of said attachment fitting neatly around and forming a close connection with the roll-rim 14 at the end of the sink, while the extension 15, withits curved face 16, fits neatly around the front roll-rim 17 for a short distance. In the rear the curve 18 fits up snugly around the splash-board, so that when the drain-board is finally secured in position it presents a neat appearance.
It is not necessary to cut away any portion of the roll-rim of the sink in adjusting the drain-board thereto, which cutting away of of 'the body portion 5 of the drain-board is formed the groove 7, extending across the WILLIAM G. MCKINNEY, OF NEW BRIGHTON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO- the sink not only increases the labor, but at the same time tends to weaken the sink, and
it is impossible to obtain as neat and close a fit as may be obtained by the use of my invention.
My improved drain-board'inay be r'nid'e'o'f different sizes to correspond to the standard sizes of sinks and may be made right-handed and left-handed, according to the manner in which they are to be used.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A drain-board for sinks" having a curved portion adapted to fit over the end of the roll rim of the sink, and a curved extension adapted to fit over the front roll-rim of said sink. I
2. A drain-board for sinks comprising a' \rooden body portion and a metallic attach} ment at one end thereof having a curved pertion adapted to fit over the end of the rollrim of the sink, and said attachment having a curved extension adapted to fit over the 'front roll-rim of said sink.
3. A drain-board for sinks comprising a w'o'o'den body portion having a groove formed along one end thereof, a metallic attachment having a rib adapted to enter said groove the upper face of said attachment being flush with said body portion, screws through said body portion and entering said rib, and said attachnie'nt having a curved portion adapted to fit over the roll-rim of said sink.
In testimony whereof I, the said WILLIAM V C. MCKINNEY, have hereunto set my hand.
