TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, WOODBURY SOTORER HOW, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Toilet-Stand; and I hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description thereof,

reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.

This invention relates to a device, which, in its extended condition, becomes a very convenient stand for the temporary suspension of wearing apparel in a bed-chamber, or otherwise, and which, when not in use, is susceptible of being folded into a, very compact form for conve-nient storage in a closet or corner.

Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of my stand in its open and closed conditions respectively.

A is a stem, of triangular form, and having three legs, B B BB, secured to its lower portion by means of pivots, which may take the form externally of hooks, D,'on which to'hang or suspend garments, watch, and

other articles of Vpersonal wear and apparel. The divergence of the legs may be limited by stops or shoulders E, or by braces, as at F.' There may be hinged to one or more of the legs a brace or seat, F, having n. crotch, f, to enclose one of the other legs, and a perforation,f, to receive u pin, G, which traverses the said perforation, and a corresponding one, b, in the leg. Both stem and legs are studded with pegs, H, for the suspension of garments, &c. From thel bottom of stem A projects a hook, I, which forms a very convenient object of suspension for crinoline."

`Wooden pegs are shown, exhibiting the simplest and cheapest form of support for articles, but any hooks, pegs, nails, screws, or knobs may be used. The support-s may be in material, form, or position to suit the manufacturer, and the length of legs, their numbers, sizes, forms, and positions upon the central piece also may be varied in any convenient manner, and the central piece also may b'c of any desired length, size, or form, and the stand be made in part or altogether of metal, in accordance with the taste or desire ofthe maker. The upper parts of the stopsE should come just above the angle made by the legs with the central piece, so that nothing may be jammed or torn at those parts, The stops may be cut in reverse, so that the legs will open either way, but inthe way preferred there is less liability to confusion by the user.

My stand comprises essentially three or more legs, with n. central piece, to which they a-re pivoted, and on which they are stopped by the devices shown at E, in such manner that they form astand for' the purpose of4 receiving and holding articles of dress and ornament, or lhousehold goods, and constituting a new and original piece of chamber furniture.

I claim herein as new, and of my invention- 1. The arrangement of central stem pivoted legs BB B, stops E, pegs H, and hooks D and I` the whole forming a movable stand for the toilet purposes stated in the specification.

2. In combination with the elements of' the preceding clause, I claim the brace or step F, arranged and attached as set forth.
