BAG.
Apphcntion filed Apr. 9, 1901.1
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
MILLARD E. MOGG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 676,660, dated J' une 18,` 1901.
Application filed April 9, 1901. Serial No. 55,033. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILLARD E. MOGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bags; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 0thers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to bags particularly designed for the handling of coal; and the main object of the invention is to provide a bag which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and exceedingly inexpensive of production, and which will permit of its being emptied with ease, the construction being such that dust and small particles of coal will not cling to the sides or be stopped by any interior obstruction of the bag.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel form of handle or grip which is connected tothe bag in a strong and durable way.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the bag. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through a portion of the side thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the handles or grips.
In the drawings, l denotes a bag which may be of any well-known or approved shape or construction. The upper edge of the bag is turned over and hemmed down on the outside, so as to leave an uninterrupted smooth interior surface and prevent dust and small particles from being caught and retained in the bag in the act of emptying.
3 denotes reinforcing-flaps preferably, but not necessarily, triangular, which are secured at their edges to the outer sides of the bag, with their apices extending downwardly.
4 denotes the handles or grips, each of which consists of a strip of leather or analogous material having its ends slit or bifurcated to enable the members of each end to straddle the upper edge of the bag and its reinforcing-flap and be secu red thereto by rivets 5. The grips or handles intermediate their ends or at the points above the bifurcation are shaped in any suitable manner to substantially tubular form to present a convenient and easy grip for the hand. l
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, mode of operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation. It might, however, be noted that a bag thus constructed is exceedingly simple and strong of construction and that the handles or grips are so attached as to reduce to a minimum the liability of their pulling apart from the bag. f
Various changes in the form, proportion, and details of construction maybe made within the scope of the invention Without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bag having secured to its sides at its upper end and on its outer face triangular strips having their apices downwardly directed, grips 0r handles of flexible material having bifurcated or slitted ends Which straddle the upper edge of the bag and reinforcing-strips and are located upon opposite sides of the medial line of each strip, and rivets passing through the bag, reinforcing-strips and legs of bifurcations of the grips and rigidly uniting the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Wit- 'nesses` v MILLARD E. MOGG.
