JOHN J. NEWMAN. OF MIDDLETOWN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO ERWIN, ;WILSON AND COMPANY, OF SAME SLACE.
Letters Patent No. 67,567, dated August 6, 1867.
IMPROVED GLOTHES-DRIER.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J. J. NEWMAN, of Middletown, in the county of Butler, and State of Ohio, have inv nted a new andiuseful Improvement in Clothes-Horse Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exac'tuescription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specificntion,:and in Which-- Figure 1 is a. perspective view of my clothes-rack, the hinged arm extended.
Figure? is a. view of the rack, the hinged arm and rack being closed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
This invention consists in attaching a, hinged armfto a clothes-rack, which extends horizontally when in use, and when not in use may be dropped by the side of the rack so as to be out of the way.
In the drawings, A A A A represent the legs, B B B the rounds or slats, and C the braces of my clothesrack, the sides of the rack being united at the top by the hinges D Near the top of the rack, and attached to' the leg A by a pin, E, is an arm, F, hinged atfebove the pin E. When the rack is used the hinged arni F is opened and rested upon the pin G in the side of the rack opposite to that holding the pin E. When not in use the arm 1? is closed upon its central hinge fand hangs from its supporting-pin Eupon one side of the frame; as shown in fig. 2. There is a similar arm, F F, upon each side of the frameyand they are connected by slats or rounds to form a. suitable support for the clothes while drying.
I do not claim the invention simply of an arm occupying the position on the rack wbiehl hnve'described this one as occupying, for such an arm is already in use; but what I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The combination of the hinge f, arm F, and pins.E and G, when used in connection with a. clothes-horse rack, substantially as and folthe purpose set forth. I
'lothe above specification of my improvement I have signed my hand this'l2th day of April, 1867.
JOHN J. NEWMAN.
