TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN: v
Be it known that I, PHrLo H. MUNSON, of Franklin township, in the' county of Erie, and State of Pernsylvania, (Edinboro Post Oice,) have invented a. new and useful improvement onl Washing Machines; .fand I do hereby declaretha't the following is n. fulLclear, and exact -ceseiiption of the construction and operation of the' saule, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and v Figure 2 n.. section throughz v v A, the main roller, tinted on the surface.' J5, the axle of this roller at the orank end. C, the axle or bearing at the opposite end. d e, conneeting-rods,'by` which pressure is applied to the `:nain roller. fg, bar
eonneetngthese rods, on the l'niddleof vwhich-the lever z" l presses. h', weight luy-which, as it moves towards ivorgthe-pressure ongf and the bearings B 'C and roller is increased or diminished. z" Z, the lover, .hinged atl,-caxeryingl Epmd pressing at g the middle point of the barf g, `j, a bar running across the bottom of the Iwal-sieben,and fastened to it, for the purpose of furnishing guides for the eonneotiug-rods d c. k, a bar fastened to the bottom of the hoxfin the middle Aof which is attached the hinge m. n o, four blocks fastened tothe inside of thelwash-box, to hold the roller-frame. p q, the frame for the small rollers.- -n and a and p q are net sectional views through x y, but perspective views as they appear on the side of the box represented in iig. 2. 7 r2, small rollers, with bearings at each end running in p q, the sides of the rollerframe; vthe nuin roller barely touches these rollers. S E', the connecting-rod and bearing on the opposite side of, tlie box. So far this gure is not a 'section throughs y. t a, metal bottom nailed sefzurely 'to the sides andends. Instead of the weight, springs may be used to press roller A down. i
The loperation is as follows: The box is filled with water above the rollers r. When the motion \f the main roller is from A. towards q the garment is thrust. in at r1. The' 'pressure and motion of roller A carry it through over roller rlif. Before the garment 'passes entirely from roller 'r the motion of the crank-end of roller Ais reversed,v and as it moves from qrtowards A the garment is carried between roller A and rollers t" r2 rl. Before it has escaped from roller 1" the motion is `again1-eversed, and so on until the garment iswashed. v
Small garments are placed in a net-work sack, and are thus run throughthe machine together.
What I claim es my invention, and desire' to secureby Letters Patent, is- AThe' arrangement of `the small rollers r with thev crank-roller A, pressed down by the lover, vveighnand their connect-ions, all constructed and operated substantially as described.
i HLO MUNSON.
