To all whom, it nttty concern:

Be it known that I, OTTO RANGNOW, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new Improvement in Sectional Cups for Trunk- Locks; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the figures of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in V Figure 1, a perspective view of a trunk pro-.

vided with a hasp-lock; Fig. 2, a detached perspective View of the bod y or locating piece of my improved sectional cup; Fig. 3, a corresponding view of the locking-plate thereof; Fig. 4, a perspective view of the bindingpiece thereof; Fig. 5, a sectional view showing the three parts of the sectional look after their assemblance, with the clamping-arms shown in their clamping positions by full lines and in their unbent positions by broken lines.

My invention relates to an improvement in the cups used with-hasp-locks for trunks, the object being to produce at a low cost for manufacture a strong and durable cup, combining ease of application with security against surreptitious removal from the trunk-cover.

With these ends in view my invention consists in a sectional cup comprising'a bodyor locating piece,a locking-plate, and a clampingpiece, the said parts being adapted to be assembled after their application to the opposite faces of a trunk-cover, to the inner face of which they are fastened.

My invention further consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described,'and pointed out in the claims.

In carrying out my invention as herein shown I employ a body or locating piece formed from a single piece of sheet metal and comprising a circular housing-collar 2, adapted in diameter to receive the circular or disk -1ikelock structure, which is not shown, but which is mounted in the usual manner upon the inner face of the outer end of the hasp 15. The said housing-collar has formed upon its outer edge and at a right angle thereto an annular flange 3, whiclnis designed to rest against the outer face of the cover or lid 13 of the trunk 14, while the inner edge of the said locating-housing 2 has formed upon it an inwardly-turned bearing-- flange 4, also located at a right angle to it and provided at opposite points with clearancernotches 5. I do not limit myself, however, to forming this body or locating piece in the shape shown and described, as its particular form may be varied.

My improved cup also comprises a lockingplate 6, formed in its center with a verticallyarranged elliptical opening 7, designed for the reception of the usual locking-button of the lock structure. This plate is adapted in form and size to have its edges engaged with the bearing-flange 4 of the locating or body piece already described. Upon the edges of the locking-plate I form two inwardly-bent clamping-arms 8, for which the notches 5 form clearance-openings.

My improved cup also comprises a bindingplate 9, disk-shaped, as shown, although not necessarily so,and formed with two verticallyarranged slots 10 10, designed for the rearward passage through it of the clampingarms 8 8, before mentioned. The said plate is also provided, as shown, with two inwardlyturned teeth 11 11, designed to be driven into the inner face of the front 12 of the cover 13 of the trunk 14, which is shown as being furnished with a hasp-lock comprising a hasp 15 and a hasp-plate 16, to which a hasp is hinged, and which is secured to the front of the trunk by means of a bolt 17.

In assembling my improved sectional cup the locating or body piece thereof is first set into a circular opening 18, formed for its reception in the front of the cover of the trunk. The locking-plate is then introduced into the said body-piece and passed rearwardly therein until its edges come to a bearing upon the bearing-flange 4. thereof, its clamping-arms 8 passing rearwardly through the notches 5 and into the interior of the cover of the trunk. The binding-plate 9 is now applied over the projecting rear ends of the arms 8 8 and brought to a bearing upon the inner face of the front of the cover, its teeth 11 being driven thereinto for locating the plate. The arms 8 are now turned outwardly and down, as shown in Fig. 5, whereby the three members of the cup are securely bound together. If desired, brads 19 may be driven through small holes 20, formed in the ends of thearms; but this additional security is not necessary.

It will appear from the foregoing that the parts of my improved sectional cup are applied to the opposite faces of the trunk-cover, after which they are fastened to the inner face thereof in such a way that the fastening means are inaccesible except from the inside of the trunk, whereby the cup is protected against surreptitious removal.

In carrying out my invention some changes from the construction herein shown and described may be made, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact form herein shown, buthold myself at liberty to make such variations therefrom as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A sectional cup for trunk-locks of the hasp type, comprisinga body or locating piece having a housing-collar for the reception of the lock structure carried by the hasp, and a bearing-flange located upon the inner edge of the said collar, an independently-formed locking-plate inserted into and engaged with the said body or locating piece, and means for securing the said parts together after their application to the opposite faces of the trunkcover within which they are fastened, and whereby the surreptitious removal of the cup is prevented.

2. In a sectional cup for use with trunklocks of the hasp type, the combination with a body or locating piece comprising a housing-collar and an inwardly-turned bearingflange located upon the inner edge thereof, a locking-plate adapted to bear upon the said flange, and formed with clamping-arms, and a binding-piece adapted to be located upon the inner face of the front of the cover of a trunk and to receive the said arms which are turned down upon it to bind the three parts of the cup together.

3. In a sectional cup for trunk-locks of the hasp type, the combination with a body or locating piece comprising a housing-collar for the reception of the lock structure, an outwardly-turned flange located at the outer edge of the said collar, and an inwardly-extending bearing-flange formed upon the inner edge of the said collar, a locking-plate formed with two inwardly-projecting clamping-arms, and a binding-piece formed with slots for the reception of the said arms which are turned down upon it for firmly binding the three parts of the cup together.
