RICHARD T. CRANE, CF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 67,502, dated August 6, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN PATTERNS POR CASTING STEAM-PIPE SUPPORTS.
fdilgc tlgtmle nfttrtt tn in that tttters @sind mit making gint .uf tigt same.
TC ALLlWI-IOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, RICHARD T. CRANE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented n new and useful Improvement in Patterns for Casting Steaui-Pipe Supports; and I do hereby declare and make known that thc following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters and figures marked thereon, which form part of tins specification.
My invention consists in having those parts of the pattern which form the hooks or rests which support the pipes so attached and pivoted to the body of the pattern as to be susceptible of being raised up out from the mould in such a manner as not to injure the form or outline of the mould, all asliereinafter fully explained and set forth.
To enable those skilled in the art to understand how to construct and use my said invention, I will proceed to describe the same with partieularity, making reference in so doing to the aforesaid drawings, in which- Figure I represents a view of the lower side of the pattern.
Figure 2. a plan or top view of the same.
Figure 3 is a side elevation thereof; and
Figure 4 is a longitudinal central section of the same.
Similar letters of reference in the several figures denote the same parts of my invention. Y
A represents the stationary part of the pattern, and B those parts forming the hooks or supports upon which the pipes rest. These hook-patterns are pivoted to the main pattern A by means of pins or otherwise, as shown at b, so that by inserting a hook or rod ,in the small apertures c, said hook-patterns may be raised up out from the mould without displacing the sand or in any way injuring the mould. a represents the holes through which screws pass to secure the fixture in.the desired position. The hook-patterns have a general form, corresponding with the arc of a circle, whose centre vis at b, which configuration is desirable; at least the end of the hook must not lie nearer the centre than the other parts thereof, otherwise there would be a liability to injure the mould. The same result would obtain if the point of the hook were farther from said centre than' the other parts of the hook-pattern.
Having described the construction and opera-tion ot my invention, I will now specify what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl p I claim, in combination with the main pattern A, one or more pivoted honk-patterns B, arranged and 'operating substantially as and for the purposes herein specified.
RICHARD T. CRANE.
