1n: norms UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
PAUL BARAN, OF NEW KENSINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
EXTENSION-BRACKET FR EAVES-TROUGHS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 674,663, dated May 21, 1901.
Application filed November 28, 1900. Serial No. 38,029. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL BARAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Kensingtomin the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Brackets for Eaves-Troughs,of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in extension-brackets for eaves-troughs, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby the eavestrough may be readily adjusted to its proper position under the roofs of buildings and the like.
The invention aims to construct adevice of the above-described character that may be easily removed when desired and adjusted to the proper position.
The invention further aims to construct an eaves-trough bracket that will present a novel appearance and possess many advantages, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
I n describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a building having one of my improved brackets attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the base-plate. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the V-shaped bracket. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the extension-arm.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 indicates the walls of the building, and 2 the roof thereof.
3 represents the base plate, having arranged therein at its lower end an opening4 and near its upper end an upwardly-extending opening 5.
The reference-numeral 6 represents a V- shaped bracket, being composed of a horizontal bar 7, terminating in an upwardlyone of the apertures 9 of the horizontal bar 7, the upper end of said L-shaped bracket carrying a U-shaped hanger 18, adapted to receive the eaves-trough 19.
The operation of my improved bracket is as follows: The base-plate is secured to the walls of the building in any suitable manner. The L-shaped bracket is then placed upon the horizontal bar of the V-shaped bracket, the yoke sliding upon the horizontal bar and the lower portion of the L-shaped bracket being adapted to slide between the lugs 10. u
Any fastening means may be employed, such as a pin or rod, to be passed through the openings 17 and 9, serving to securely fasten the aforesaid parts together. The upwardly-extending portion 8 `and the lug 14 engage and are seated in the openings 5 and 4, respectively, thus securely fastening the bracket to the walls of the building. The eaves-trough is suspended in the U-shaped hanger 18 and may be fastened therein in any suitable manner, such as binding over the ends, and clamping the same, as shown in the drawings, or other fastening means may be employed for this purpose.
The many advantages obtained by the use of my improved bracket will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and it will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having thnsfully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an eaves-trough bracket, the combination ofa base-plate having openings formed therein, a V-shaped bracket carrying engageing ends an'd having formed therein apertures, lugs arranged upon said V-shaped bracket, an L-shaped bracket, a yoke secured to said L-shaped bracket, and a U-shaped i hanger arranged to the upper portion of said L-shaped bracket, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence' of two Witnesses.
PAUL BARAN. Witnesses:
