FOLDING TABLE.
(Application filed June 28, 1900.)

WITNESSES ALBERT BOSDELL JONES, OF MORRISTOVVN, NElV JERSEY.
FOLDING TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 674,062, dated May 14, 1901.
Application. filed June 28, 1900. Serial No. 21,905. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT BosDELL JONES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Morristown, county of Morris, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw ings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to improvements in folding tables, the object thereof being to provide an article of this character which is adapted to be readily folded to take up but small space when not in use and which is durable, inexpensive, and effective in general use.
The invention will be hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the annexed claim.
In the accompanying drawing's,forming part of this specification, Figure l is an elevation of myimproved table, showing the same in open position for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device folded, and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view showing the table in open position.
In the practice of my invention I provide, primarily, a table-top A, which embodies two rectangular boards A, which are hinged to each other by means of countersunk hinges a. These table-top sections A are each provided with a hinged beam B, these beams being attached to the under surface of the said sections A and hinged thereto by means of the hinges b. To these beams are secured the pairs of legs 0 and O. The pair of legs 0 extend downwardly at an angle, and the pair of legs 0' extend downwardly ata reverse angle, and where they cross centrally of the table-top they are connected to each other by means of screws or other suitable pivots c. To strengthen the structure, each pair of legs is connected by means of a cross-brace c.
As a means for locking the table-top sections in an open position I employ a button D, which is pivoted to one of the table-top sections A by means of a screw cl, and the said button is locked partly by the free end of said button, which is beveled, engaging said beam B, as illustrated in Fig. 3, and partly by the upper side of said button D resting against the lower surface of said top sections, where it is detachably secured by the hook E. This hook is pivoted to the bottom surface of one of the top-sections and engages the eye (1 of said button, as illustrated.
When the table is in use, the several parts are in normal relative arrangement, as illustrated by Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings; but when it is desired to fold the table for the purpose of transporting or for packing it away in a small space the button D is released from the hook E and the two table-top sections folded upon each other, as illustrated by Fig. 2 of the drawings.
I do not confine myself to the specific proportions or contour of the several parts of the device as herein shown and described, as it is obvious that under the scope of my invention I am entitled to slight structural variations.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a folding table, the combination with top-sections, hinged together; and side beams hinged to said top-sections; of a button pivoted to one of said top-sections, arranged to swing in a plane parallel to the said top, and to extend across the joint between said topsections and reach to one of said side beams; the said button having its free end beveled, and adapted and arranged to engage said side beam, and partly by the said beveled end of said button, so engaging said side beam, and partly by the said button resting with its upper side against the bottom of said top-sections, to hold said table in extended position; all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed myname, in presence of two witnesses, this 8th day of June, A. D. 1900. V
ALBERT BOSDELL JONES.
