Be it known that I, EBEN M. SCOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specifica- A tion.

My invention relates to that class of paper boxes in which the box slips within a tubular cover and is designed to provide a box which will be strong and light, easily opened, yet practically impossible of opening accidentally. Such a box has long been desired for many purposes, and especially for sending articles through the mail, where it is desirable that the contents of the box be easily inspected yet safe from accidentally falling out. I accomplish these objects by myinvention,which is fully illustrated in the drawings and which I shall hereinafter describe.

These tongues are easily disengaged from the slit or opening, the box read ily removed, and the contents inspected. It is obvious, however, that when the tongues are in engagement with the slits the box cannot be removed by any ordinary force.

The box may have the plurality of lids at either or both ends or may have only one lid at each end or may have one end uncovered or either end may be permanently closed in any desirable manner without departing from the spirit of my invention, the essential feature being a part having a slit or opening to engage the tongue of the tubular cover. It is also obvious that there may be one or more tongues on the tubular cover, the preferable form having two tongues, one on each side and at opposite ends of the cover, as illustrated in Fig. 2, one tongue being shown in dotted lines therein.
