CHARLEY C. EDWARDS, OF BINGHAM CANYON, UTAH.
EMBROIDERY-HOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,915, dated March 12, 1901.
Application filed June 9,1900. Serial No. 19,734 (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLEY O. EDWARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bingham Canyon, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Embroidery- Hoops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in embroidery-hoops; and its primary object is to provide a device of simple and durable construction which is effective in use.
To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which Figure 1 is a plan View thereof. Fig. 2 is an enlarged section through a clamp on line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a similar section of a modified form.
Referring to said drawings by numerals of reference, 1 is a hoop having a suitable number of threaded passages 2 therein for the reception of a screw 3, having a head 4 at the outer end and swiveled at its inner end to a plate 5, preferably curved, as shown. These plates are adapted to bear upon the periphery of av hoop 6, arranged therebetween and upon which is placed the material to be worked.
In operation the cloth is placed over the hoop and the plates 5 moved toward the hoop or rim l.- The hoop 6 is then placed between these plates, which are screwed thereagainst and firmly clamped to the same, holding the material securely in position thereon. I do It will be seen that by providing flanges to the outer ring 1 the heads 4 of the screws will be locked therebetween when the segments are clamped upon the inner ring. This will, as is obvious, prevent the thread from catching upon the screws when thesame is being used upon the fancy-work held within the device.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred, form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a work holding hoop; of a larger hoop inclosing the same and having passages therein, screws within the passages, and plates swiveled to the inner ends of the screws and adapted to hold the Work upon the inner hoop.
2. The combination with a hoop having threaded passages therein; of an outwardlyextending flange to the hoop; screws mounted in said passages; curved plates swiveled to the innerends of said screws; a hoop adapted to be clamped between said plates, and heads to the screws at points beneath th flange.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLEY 0. EDWARDS.
