Description

(No Model.)
G. F. HURLEY.
SIGNAL HOLDER.
I Patented Dec. 25, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CORNELIUS F. HURLEY, OF NORTIIFIELD, VERMONT.
SIGNAL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 394,983, dated December 25, 1888.
Application filed August 6, 1888. Serial No. 282,109. .(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS F. H URLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Northfield, in the county of IVashington and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Signal-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a flag or signal holder, whereby a flag or any signal can be firmly and quickly secured at its corners or at any other desirable point to a suitable arrangement for the holding, hoisting, and lowering of said signals.
To this end relates my inventiomwhioh will hereinafter be more fully described and pointed out, reference being had to the ac-' companying drawings and letters of reference thereon, in which Figure 1 is aview in elevation showing the flag-staff, ropes, and pulleys auxiliary in the use of my invention, but not absolutely necessary. I11 Fig. 1 my invention is shown at A A. Fig. 2 shows my invention detached from the signal, which will be fully described as used in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged View of the holder shown in Fig. 1.
B in Figs. 1 and 2 shows a hollow opening through the rear end of the holder, through which a cord or rope is intended to pass.
C is a set-screw for the purpose of securing the holder to the cord or rod passing through the hollow opening at B in a firm manner. By this arrangement the holder can be easily secured to or detached from any suitable arrangement for supporting the device.
In Figs. 1 and 2, D D show the projecting lock arms of the device. E represents the key. The signal is to be placed between the lock-arms D D, the key E to pass through these arms and the signal and be locked, thereby securing the signal in a firm manner. As many signal-holders may be used as desired in securing the flag or other emblem.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with any suitably-constructed arrangement for hoisting and lowering or holding signals, of the device having a hollow opening at its rear end, a set-screw passing through said hollow opening and the projecting arms, and key fort-he purpose of locking signals firmly in place, all substantially as set forth and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CORNELIUS F. HURLEY.
