Description
rricii,
CHARLES GREEN, OF UXBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO ALBERT O. W] ARREN, ldASSA CHUSETTS.
OF NElVTON, AND GEORGE L. STEVENS, OF BOSTON,
FABHEG.
SPEGJIFIGATIWEI forming part of Letters Patent No. 668,010, dated February 12, 1901.
Application filed August 11, 1899. Serial No. 726,855. (No specimens.)
To (0% whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Uxbridge, in the county of I'Vorcesterand State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Fabric, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to the herein described fabric which has been treated with a solution of chlorid of magnesium, chlorid of ammonium, chlorid of sodium, and sufficient water to fully dissolve the same.
In practicing my invention I first prepare a solution of chlorid of magnesium, chlorid of ammonium, chlorid of sodium, and water in about the following proportions: Forty parts of chlorid of magnesium, two parts of chlorid of ammonium, and one hundred and sixty parts of chlorid of sodium, with sufficient water to fully dissolve the same. The fabric generally is passed through the solution, thoroughly saturated with it, and then sent through coinpressing-rolls or an extractor, whereby the surplus solution is eliminated from the water, and then dried. The
fabric thus treated is fulled, filled, closed, given additional body and softness, and its colors are also brightened and developed, and it is improved in appearance and finish.
My invention is especially adapted for fabrics having more or less wool fiber, and these and other fibers and threads of the fabric are increased in size and at the same time softened, and this increase in size and softness remains a characteristic of the fabric and increases its fullness.
In practicing the invention I would say that I do not confine myself to the proportions of the ingredients herein specified, but may vary the same to any desired or reasonable degree, according to the kind, color, and character of the goods, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The ingredients maybe mixed together before the solution is formed or they may be separately added to the water, and in lieu of the chlorid of ammonium aqua-ammonium or ammoniacal gas may be used.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The improved fabric of the character described, the same having fibers and threads of wool which are enlarged, brightened and filled with a softening and fulling solution composed of chlorid of magnesium, chlorid of ammonium and chlorid of sodium, all as set forth.
CHARLES GREEN.
