RAZOR STROP.
(Application filed July 17, 1900.) (No Model.)
WITNESSES THE NORRIS Perms cc. PHOTCi-LIYNO WASHINGYON, n cv ilnrrnn STATES LOUIS BERGER, OF LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND.
RAZOR-STRO P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,998, dated January 29, 1901.
Application filed July 17, 1900.
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS BERGER, merchant, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Lausanne, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Inprovements in Razor-Strops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in strops for sharpening razors or other edgetools; and the invention consists of a strop comprising a suitable handle, two blades secured thereto, said blades being separated from each other, one of the blades being made of wood and having spring tension, and a projection at the outer end of said blade movable upon the other blade when the wooden blade is pressed downwardly in use.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a strop made according to my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The strop shown is formed of apiece of wood of rectangular section longitudinally excavated, so as to form two thin and flexible blades 1 and 2, connected at their inner ends by the handle 3. At their outer 'ends the blades are provided with projections, respectively, 4 and 5, adapted to bear one upon the other when either of the blades is pressed downward in use, so that the lowermost blade supports the uppermost. On pressing with the razor or other tool upon the upper blade Serial No. 23,910. (No model.)
1 the part 4 slides upon the part 5 and offers, therefore, no resistance to the fleXion of the blade, as would happen were the parts 4 and 5 connected together. The exterior surface of each blade is striated, so as to retain the emery paste or other suitable coating applied thereto incrusted in the grooves, so that said paste, in combination with the wood, acts upon the razor, sharpening the same thereby in a manner superior to that obtainable by use of the ordinary razor-strops.
The blades, handle, and parts 4: and 5 may be made integral, as shown, or of separate pieces connected together.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A strop, consisting of a suitable handle, two blades secured thereto and separated from each other, one of said blades being made of wood and very thin and flexible, and a projection at the outer end of said blade, said projection extending toward the opposite blade and movable thereon when the flexible blade is pressed downwardly in use, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS BERGER.
