BATH-BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming` part of Letters Patent No. 666,759, dated January 29, 1901.
Application led October 23, 1895- Serial No. 566.587. (No model.)
To all whom, 1125 puny concern:
Be it known that I, BURTON D. KNICKER- BOCKER, al citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bath Brushes, (Case No. 1,) of which the followingis a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawio ings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to bath brushes or scrubbers, its object heilig to provide an improved construction of brush whereby water may be continuously su pplied to the surface of the brush, the supply being uniform throughout the surface.
In accordance with my invention I provide a rubber bath-brush formed of a single and integral piece of soft rubber and comprising zo a pair of thin flexible plates separated by a rim extending around the perimeters thereof to thus form an interior receptacle for the liquid, said receptacle being provided with a duct at asuitable position, by means of which theliquid may be admitted to the interiorvof the receptacle. One of the said plates is provided upon the outer surface with a series of projections or teeth constituting the scrubbingsurface, and said teeth are provided with axial bores or ducts extending therethrough and communicating with said interior receptacle, whereby the liquid may be delivered to the scrubbing-surface of the brush. A suitable handle is associated with the body of the brush, so that the hand may bereadily placed in position to flex or bend the brush into the desired position to fit the contour of' the body.
I will describe my invention by reference 4o to the accompany-ing drawings, in which- Figure l is a view in elevation, partially in section, of a brush embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a View looking at the under side of the brush.
Like letters refer to like parts in the several figures.
The brush is formed of rubber or other flexible material and is provided with an interior chamber or receptacle a.. A tube ct is 5o molded with the brush, preferably upon the side, and forms a duct, whereby water maybe ad mitted to the receptacle a.. A series of pro-- jections or teeth o b are provided upon the face of the brush, the teeth beinglong enough so that they will possess considerable flexibility and situated close enough together so that they form an eflcientscrubbing-surface. The teeth are preferably slightly tapered and somewhat flattened upon the ends. The ,flattening of the ends of the teeth affords a fric- 6o tional surface which lends a desirable scrubhing quality to the brush, while the slight taper to the teeth prevents the accumulation of dirt and foreign matter between the teeth and upon theends. Extending longitudinally through the teeth are ducts b' o, communieating with the receptacle a, the ducts extending to the tips of the teeth, whereby the water within the receptacle may ow through the ducts to the ends of the teeth that consti- 7o tute the scrubbing-surface. The water may thus be continuously supplied in the quantity desired at the contact-surface of the brushthat is, at the surface to be cleaned or scrubbed. Furthermore, the water is by this means uniformly supplied over the whole surface of the brush, and is therefore more effective than though it were supplied in a larger quantity at one point of the brush.
A handle c, of any desired form and con- 8o struction, may be provided upon the back of the brush and preferably takes the form of a strip of rubber, the ends of which are formed integral with the back of the brush, and between Which strip and the back the hand is adapted to rest. The tube a', extending from the brush, may be joined with a hose or may be made integrally therewith,as may be found most convenient. I preferably join the tube a' with a hose CZ by means of a connector e, 9o provided with a bore for the passage of the water, and provided upon its periphery with a centrally-situated channel having walls or shoulders which prevent the tubes from withdrawing from the connector due to the force of the water. f
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A rubber bathbrush formed of a single Ioo and integral piece of soft rubber and comprising a pair of thin flexible plates sepathe brush to permit the saine to be exed or bent into any desired position, substantially as described.
1n Witness whereofI hereunto subscribe my name this 19th dayof October, A. D. 1895.
BURTON D. KNICKERBOCKER.
