INVENTOH M. W. WINSTON. GARMENT FASTENER. (Application filed Sept. 13, 1900:)
(No Model.)
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MOSES W. WINSTON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARM ENT-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 666,082, dated January 15, 1901.
Application filed September 13, 1900. Serial No. 29,919. (No model.)
To a. whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MOSES W. WINSTON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for fastening garments; and the ob-. ject is to provide a fastening device of simple construction adapted to be attached to the waistband of trousers and designed to support an undergarment and also to receive a suspender-ring for supporting both the trousers and the undergarment.
I will describe a garment-fastener embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is an inside face view of a garment-fastenerembodyingmyinvention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a partial section and partial side view showing the fastening device.
The fastener comprises a socket 1, designed to be attached to the waistband 2 and forming one section of the fastener, the other section being in the form of a compressible head 1 as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2 and in full lines in Fig. 3, and which is designed to be attached to the waistband of an undergarment. Thus it will be seen thatwhen the two sections are placed together the undergarment will be supported by the trousers.
Arranged between the interior flange 3 of the fastening-section 1 and the waistband is the inwardly-extended annular flange 4 of a button 5, adapted to receive a suspender-ring, as indicated in the drawings. This button portion 5 may be made of anysuitable material and of any desired shape. I have here shown it as consisting of metal and substantially cup-shaped, as by this construction it may be very cheaply made by stamping it out.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Aball-and-socket fastener, havinga button member projecting from one section of the fastener at the base and extended in the direction of the other fastener-section and inclosing the point of junction of said sections, substantially as specified.
2. A ball-and-socket fastener, the socketsection of which has a flaring button member projecting from the base of said socket member in an opposite direction from the socket, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MOSES W. WINSTON.
