Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST OESER, on BERLIN, GERMANY.
PROCESS OF MANUFACTURING COLORED OR SIMILAR FILMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 665,458, dated January 8, 1901.
Original application filed December 20, 1899, Serial No. 741,058. Divided and this application filed Se t b r 27,1900. Serial No. 31,289. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EnNs'r OESER, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of Dresdenerstrasse 7 9, Berlin, Germai'iy, have invented a certain new and useful Process of Manufacturing Colored or Similar Films, of which the following is a specification.
The invention treats of a process for the manufacture of colored and similar films the surface of which is figured. Forthis purpose I make a mixture of a number of fluid colors, according to the number of the colors out of which the pattern of the films is to consist, Each color is mixed as follows: I take, for instance, one-fourth to one-half liter of water, dissolve some isinglass in it, add some glycerin, mix in it a corresponding quantity of the coloring-matter in question, and add to this mixture, kept lukewarm, some albumen. \Vith the preparation obtained by the process just described I then apply the desired pattern-for instance, stone color or wood colorto a glass plate or another smooth plane and let the color become dry. Then I pass over the whole with that color-which is to be the ground color of the film. This ground color is, however, prepared in the same way as the colors of the pattern. As soon as all has become.dry I scrape the color off from the glass plate by means of a suitable knife, and thus obtain the film. I may also proceed in a reversed way. I apply (in the manner just described) at first the ground color to the glass plate, and as soon as it has become a little dry I scrape out the pattern and then pass over it with that color by which the pattern is to be figured. After the coating has become dry I scrape it likewise off from the glass, and thus obtain the film.
To the preparation of each color I choose the following proportions: water, one-fourth to one-half liter; isinglass, five to ten grams; glycerin, ten to fifteen grams; albumen, about thirty grams. Add coloring-matter until the mixture is suitable to be struck.
In the place of the coloring-matters may be taken bronze powder.
This application is a division of the application filed by me December 20, 1899, patented October 16, 1900, No. 660,024.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The process of manufacturing figured colored films consisting in applying to a smooth surface the pattern by means of a color prepared from water, isinglass, glycerin, coloring-matter and albumen and by applying to this, when dry, another coating consisting of water, isinglass, glycerin and other coloring-matter and some albumen, all this being scraped ofi when dry.
2. The process of manufacturing figured colored films, consisting in applying to a.
smooth surface the pattern by means of colors prepared from one-fourth to, one-half liter of Water, five to ten grams isinglass, ten to fifteen grams glycerin, four hundred to five hundred grams coloringmatter and about thirty grams albumen, and by applying to it, when dry, another coating consisting of onefourth to one-half liter of water, five to ten grams isinglass, ten to fifteen grams glycerin, four hundred to five hundred grams of coloringmatter and thirty grams of albumen, which is scraped 0E, when dry.
3. The process of manufacturing figured colored films consisting in applying to a smooth surface a color prepared from onefourth to one-half liter of Water, five to ten gramsisinglass, ten to fifteen grams glycerin, four hundred to five hundred grams coloringmatter and about thirty grams albumen, in scraping, out of the coating when dry, the pattern, in passing over the whole with another color, prepared from one-fourth to one-half liter of water, five to ten grams isinglass, ten to fifteen grams glycerin, four hundred to five hundred grains of another coloring-matter and about thirty grams albumen and in scraping oi the whole when dry.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a figured film consisting of isinglass, glycerin, albumen and a color.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
