Description

I06. COMPOSITIONS,
COATING OR PLASTIC.
Patented July 7, 1936 UNITED STATES Llwllluuul PATENT OFFICE No Drawing.
Application May 15, 1934,
Serial No. 725,819
2 Claims. (01. 106-24) My invention relates generally to plastics which are easily workable while wet or moist, and which are solid and compact when dry or dried, and an important object of the present invention is to provide a plastic of this character particularly adapted to application to surfaces to augment such surfaces in an ornamental manner, and which will permanently bond with the surface to which applied so as to become an integral part of the article.
Another important object of my invention is to provide a plastic of the character indicated which is very easily and cheaply made and applied to surfaces for ornamental purposes, which will readily take and hold coatings or impregnations of paint and other coloring or tinting substances, and which will not easily chip, erode, or disintegrate under the action of the elements.
It is also an important object of my invention to provide a plastic of the character indicated which can be readily attached to the surface of a jug, tumbler, vase or other article and worked thereon while still in the moist condition to the desired shape and character of surface, and which when dry becomes a part of the article to which it was applied, and is then ready to receive and hold paint, gilt or other coloring or tinting matter.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from a reading of the following E ed product, the following proportions and ingredients are worked as indicated:-
The dry ingredients must be in a finely powdered condition capable of passing a No. 14 or a No. 16 mesh screen and include:-
Pounds Cement 35 Dry bank sand Whiting 10 Total The wet unit of the invention consists of approximately 5 gallons of a mixture of vinegar and water composed of:-
Quarts Water 15 Vinegar 5 When the dry unit of 100 pounds is mixed with the wet unit, the result is approximately pounds of a finished product in the wet or fluid condition having the proper working consistency for application to the surface to receive the same. 5
Other generally related substances of the prior art with which I am acquainted, contain and are constituted by ingredients other than those set forth above and in different proportions and relations. Many of the prior art substances mentioned contain many more ingredients than those set forth above and yet do not achieve with equal I efficiency the result afiorded by the substance of I my invention. The relatively small number of and easy availability of the ingredients of my substance enable the production and use of the substance of the invention at a minimum cost while achieving superior results. It will be observed that no special skill or expensive apparatus is required in the making and using of the substance of the invention.
It should be noted that while the substance of the invention is applicable with different degrees of efficiency to purposes other than the ornamentation of surfaces of the character indicated, the 25 invention has been especially devised to bring the greatest possible efliciency to the restricted field of application indicated and the invention possesses, accordingly, characteristics peculiarly .adapting it to this limited field of application, which may or may not disqualify it for application in other fields or conditions.
Although I have set forth and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in materials and in ingredients, and in the manner of forming and compounding the same, within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the sub- 40 joined claims.
What is claimed is:-
1. A coating for decorating clay flower pots and the like, said coating comprising the resultant of a mixture of a dry substance composed of a mixture of approximately 35 pounds of cement,
55 pounds of sand and 10 pounds of whiting; and a mixture of water and vinegar.
2. A material for applying a decorative surfacing to clay flower pots and the like by a single coating, said material containing, approximately 1 35 pounds of cement, 55 pounds of sand, 10 pounds of whiting, l5 quarts of water, and 5 quarts of vinegar.
