IMPROVBD SPRING FOR BEDS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, D. F. HAASZ, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an improvement in Spring- Bottorns for Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention consists of certain strips, rods, and springs, constructed and arranged as fully described hereafter, so as toiform a yielding and elastic support for a bed or mattress orcushion.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and apply my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents suihcient of a spring-bottom for bedsteads to illustrate my improvement..l
Figure 2, a sectional elevation on the line 1 2, iig. l; and
Figure 3, a plan view partly in section.
A is one of a series of parallel wooden strips or bars which extend across and are connected to the frame of a bedstead or seat. In the strips A are openings fc, in Veach of which slides a rod, a, hav-ing at its upper end a disk, b', and at the opposite sides of the strips adjacent to each opening x are projections ce, round which are wound the coiled portions of wire springs d of the form shown in the drawing, the inner end of each Vcoil being bent into the form of a hook which catches on to a pin, e, on the strip A. To the outer end of each spring d is linked a rod, f, which is hooked at the lower end to one. of the bent ends of a bar, 17Land on the latter bears the lower end of the rod a, the bar fitting in a recess, w,in the lower end of the rod. In the lower edge of the bar A is a recess, y, in which 4the bar h fits when the parts are in the position shown in tig. l. Owing to the peculiar manner in whichthe rods a are suspended, they will move freely vertically with but little friction, and form an extremely yielding and elastic support for the mattress or cushion which rests upon the disks ZJ. l
The above device is simple and cheap, the several parts may be readily secured to and detached from each other, and .the springs CZ are so constructed and arranged that they will not be liable to become weakened by constant usage.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The springs del, linksfj', and bar i, in combination with the strap A, sliding-rod a, and disk b, or its equivalent, the whole being constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my na'me to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
D. F. HAASZ.
