TO ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN: 1
Be it known that I, G. W. METCALFE, of Hummelstown, in the county of Dauphin, andyS't-ate of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented an improved Instrument to Cure Horses of (ribbing, and Sucking Wind; and do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being' had to the' accompanying drawings, making part of this specication- Figure 1 being a top or inside view of the instrument as applied to the. throat-latch of a bridle.
Figure 2, a vertical section thereof in a plane indicated by the line :c z, g. 1.
Figure 3, aside view of the same.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
Theinstrument consists of a metal bow, A, of' about semieircular form, and of a size t nearly itthe throat of a horse. In the centre of the bow, inside, a spur, B, situated across the bow, and having two orthree sharp points, b b, projecting upward, and two Vspring;-shields, CC, secured at their outer ends ff to the ends of the A bow, and extending inward close to the spur B, where their inner ends c c curve downward by the side of the blade points, which are ordinarily shielded thereby, all substantially as represented in the drawings. The two Vends of the bow are attached by two small screw-bolts, a a, and nuts, ol a7., to the throat-latch 'D of' a bridle or halter.
habit. If Vthe bridle is taken of of the horse the instrument can Vreadily be detached therefrom by taking out the two:screw-bolts a a, andI then attaching it to the halter, and vz'ee versa; or there may be one of the instru ments continually att'aehed to each. The action of the spring-shields is indicated by black and red lines in 3.
g What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, s
The combination of the bow A, spur B, and the two spring-shields C C, constructed and arranged as and for the 'purpose herein specified.
The above specication of my improved apparatus to cure horses cribbing and sucking wind signed by me this 15th day of April, 1867. i
