TO ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN: v I p Be it imo-wn that we, JonN HvsLor and CHARLES E. PHILLIPS, of Abington, in the'c'ounty of Plymouth,
and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful improvements in Sirup-Pitchers, and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanyingr drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification ofthe same, wherein We have set forth the nature and principles of our said improve- Inents, by which our invention lnay be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as we claim and desire to have secured to us by LettersPatent. l
The presentinvention rela-tes to the cover or lid ofthe siruppitcber.; and it consists principally in so constructing thatportion of the lid (uncover which covers the noseV tov the pitcher that it will enter ,the said nose, and thus, as it were, cutoff the iiow` of liquid therefrom, consequently not only causing and forcing the liqnidto floiv back-into the pitcher, but also serving to wipe off the liquid from the nose. p
In the accompanying plateof'drawings our improvements in sirup-pitchers are illustrated, the ligure being a central vertical section through the top and cover to a Sirup-pitcher. V
A, in the drawings, represents the top to a Sirup-pitcher, and B'its lid or cover hinged or pivoted thereto at one end, and by its other Vtting over the nose or spout C to the cap. `D, a knob or thumbpiece attached to lid or cover B, and E a bent spring applied to cover or lid and to top A in a suitable manner; such as isshown in the drawings, to canse the covei to close or shut. F, a' block of cork, or other suitable' material, applied to cover or 4 lid B at its end orportion which covers the nose to the top-piece A. This block'projects from the under side of the cover, and when closed fits Within the nose or spout where'the liquid or Sirup Hows therefrom,
and thus acting as a cut-oil` to such How prevents its dripping, causing the liquid to low back into the pitcher.
VHaving thus described our invention, we claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent- The block F applied to the lid or cover of a' siru'ppitchei', substantially as and for the purpose described` We also claim the spring E, or its equivalent, in 'combination with the cover or lid B, substantially as described for the purposefspeciied.

CHARLES E. PHILLIPS.
