ANITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED E. NORMAN, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
CAN-*HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 661,889, dated. November 13, 1900- Application filed March 9, 1900- Serial No. 7,984- (No model.)
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED E. NORMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Can-Holder, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in can-holders; and the object of my improvement is to provide a method of safely and conveniently holding and carrying hot cans or jars. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which is a detailed View in perspective of my invention and is described as follows:
In the drawing, A designates the handles,
through which is passed the large Wire bent to have the spring B formed near the outer end of the handles and each of its other ends bent to form a portion of the rectangular frames 0 and finally terminating in the cansupporting springs or terminals D, the rightangled arms E of the frames being made from a separate piece of wire and used for a stead ying-support for the terminals. Having its ends secured to one of the frames is the wire F, bent to form the loops G and the two sharp bends or projections H, the main loops G terminating in the catch or bent end J, which is adapted to engage the other frame or the bail K, carried by the other frame. The bends H are also adapted to catch said bail, thus allowing three adjustments for different-diametered cans to be employedthat is, one when the end J engages the frame 0, the second when the bends H engage the bail K, and the third when the end J engages the bail K. It will thus be seen that this utensil may be used in handling all sizes of fruitjars commonly employed and that it is simple and cheaply made and an efficient household article.
I am aware that other devices for the handling of hot dishes and other household receptacles have been invented made of wire and bent in difierent ways, and I do not claim broadly; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A can-holder, comprising a pair of handles, a single wire connecting said handles and provided with a spring at the connection,
a large loop connected to said wire provided FRED E. NORMAN.
