UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH ALMON TIOKNOR, OF OLAREMONT, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
BOOT OR SHOE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent N 0. 661,565, dated November 13, 1900.
Application filed lvlaylZ, 1900. Serial No. 16,396. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LJOSEPH ALMoN TICKNOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at W est Claremont, in the county of Sullivan and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boot or Shoe Holders, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as Will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for holding a boot or shoe over a stove or other heater in order to dry the interior thereof. Itis frequently necessary in the country to dry the interior of boots and shoes which have become Wetby wading in water and snow and which also frequently occurs with the boots or shoes of those engaged in outdoor sports; and the object of this invention is to provide a simple and effective device for this purpose by means of which a boot or shoe may be held over a stove or other heater in such manner that the heat rising from said heater will enter said boot or shoe and quickly dry the same.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which-'- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device which constitutes the subject of this invention and showing the method of the operation thereof, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the device.
In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in said drawings I have shown at A a section of a stovepipe, and in the practice of my invention I provide a device for the purpose described consisting of an arm B,which is curved in the manner shown in Fig. 1 and provided with a loop 0, which preferably consists of a wire or rod bent into proper form, so that the toe of a boot or shoe may be passed therethrough. The ends of the loop 0 are pivotally connected with the opposite sides of the arm B, as shown at D, and the arm or lever B curves upwardly and forwardly from said pivotal connection and backward ly and downwardly, and to the lower end of the backwardly and downwardly curved portion is secured a segmental clamp-head E.
In connecting the device with a stovepipe, as shown in the drawings, I provide any suitable support, which, as shown in the drawings, consists of ahorizontal arm F, provided at one end with an open spring-clamp G,
which engages the pipe, and the arm B is pro-. .vided at its forward or upwardly-curved end with a loosely-connected hook H,.which is passed through an eye or ring K in the end of the arm F.
In supportinga boot or shoe over the stove or other heater the toe of the boot or shoe is passed through the loop 0, as shown in Fig. l, and the segmental clam p-head E presses on the back portion of said boot or shoe at about the point where the flexible angle portion merges into the stifi heel portion of said boot or shoe. By means of this device the boot or shoe is securely held in the desired position, and the heat rising from the stove or other heater passes into the boot or shoe, as will be readily understood, and the interior of said boot or shoe will be quickly and thoroughly dried.
I have not shown the stove or other heater for the reason that it is not deemed necessary to the illustration of this invention; but it will be apparent that my improvement may be used in connection with any sort of a heater, and the boot or shoe may be supported, if necessary, over an open grate, the device proper by which the boot or shoe is held constituting the subject-matter of this application.
This device is simple in construction and operation and also comparatively inexpensive and well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A device of the class described, comprising a loop through which the toe of a boot or shoe may be passed, said loop being pivotally connected with a swinging arm, one end of which is curved upwardly and forwardly and the other backwardly and downwardly, and provided at its lower end with a clamp, substantially as shown and described.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a loop through which the toe of a boot or shoe is adapted to pass, a swinging arm with which the ends of said loop are pivotally connected, one end of said arm being curved upends of which project in opposite directions from said pivotal connection, one end of said arm being curved upwardly and the other downwardly, the downwardly-curved end he ingprovided with a clamp-head, and the upwardly-curved end being provided With means for loosely suspending it from a suitable support, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that [claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 9th day of May, 1900.
JOSEPH ALMON 'IICKNOR.
