Be it known that 1, JOHN STROHM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sharpsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Harness Strap Extensions and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable harnessstrap extensions.
The object of my invention is to provide an adjustable extension to dispense with buckles on such parts of the harness as traces, breech-straps, etc, where such strap ends project beyond the buckles and are liable to catch upon the reins.
The device is not alone simple in construction and composed of few parts, but is easily and quickly adjusted.
I accomplish my object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan elevation of a strap having my improved extension-piece attached. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional view through the same on the line X X of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan elevation of the same having the casing removed. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of said casing. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the adjustable hook removed from the device. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the extension-plates removed from the strap. Fig. '7 is aside elevation of a portion of the breechstrap connections, showing my device in po sition thereon.
In the several views similar detail parts are designated by numerals of like character.
In the drawings the numerals 1 designate a pair of sheet metal plates secured to the end of a leather strap 2 by means of the rivets 3. As shown in the drawings, I prefer to make the plates of one piece by bending the same over at 5 and removing a portion of the corners, as shown at 5". Two rows of pins 6 are secured between the plates near their outer edges. These pins have shouldered ends formed thereon, which are fitted into openings in the plates and afterward riveted securely thereto. A piece of spring-wire '7, having hooks 7 formed at its ends and bent into suitable form at 7, is provided. This hooked wire is adapted to engage with a pair of the plate-pins, as shown at Fig. 2. A metal or leather casing 8 is provided to slip over the device and retain the hooked connection in position. The hook connection is preferably made of greater width across its hooked ends, so that the same may more readily be disconnected from the pins when the casing is removed. In cases where the hooked connection is to be attached toa hook instead of a strap an eye 8 may be formed thereon.
It will be readily seen that by moving the casing to the left the hooked connection may be adjusted to any set of pins desired, thereby increasing or decreasing the length.
