TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES WALLACE, of Sheridan, in the county of Lebanon, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ploughs and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the let ters of reference marked thereon. V
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A represents the beam, C'the land-side, and B the handles of any ordinary plough. -D D represents a rod, which is connected to the beam by means of the loops or staples g 9, said rod lying along the lower edge of the beam; this rod is pointed as seen at X. To the rear end of the rod is pivoted the lower end of a lever, H; this lever H is also pivoted to one of the handles of the plough, as seen at'a. The forward end of the rod D is made broad and slightly-concave. This rod has an endwise movement, so that it may be drawn back of and thrust beyond the forward standard which connects the land-side to the beam. The object of this rod is to relieve theplough of weeds and stubble which collect between the beam and the forward standard of the land-side. By means of the handle II the rod D l) is thrust forward to relieve the plough, or drawn back out of the way, said handle being operated by the ploughman.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, isr The jointed rod D D, used in combination with the beam, and the handle H,-as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 6th day of May, 1867.
' JAMES WALLAOE..,[L. 5.
