TRIANGLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 660,406, dated October 23, 1900.
Application led April 3, 1900. Serial No. 11.343. {No model.) i
To fir/ZZ whom it mafg/rconcern: l
Be it known that LEDWIN H. WATERBURY, a citizen of the. United States, and a resident of Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented anew and Improved Triangle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in triangles; and the object is to provide a triangle of simple and comparatively inexpensive construction that may be readily adjusted to any desired angle for batter-slopes, roof- `pi1ches, degrees, &c., and so arranged that it will lie flat upon the paper. j
I will describe a triangle embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference'is to be hadto the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a triangle embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an end View. Fig. 3 isa section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. et is a perspective View showing a sliding washer construction. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1, 'and Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6 6 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, V10 designates the base of the triangle and which may be provided on its upper side with any desired scale Jfor measurement of angles. Movable relatively tothe base are the pitch-line rules 11 and 12, hinged together at their adjacent ends, as at 13. The ends of these rules 11 and 12 extend underneath the base 10, as shown in Fig. 1, and, as plainly indicated in Figs. 4 and 5, the under side of said baserule is recessed, so that the under sides of the rules 11 and 12 will be tlush with or on a plane with the portion of the base that rests upon the paper. Screws 14 pass through theends of the rule-sections 11 and 12, and thence through washers 15 and 16, the washer 16being provided withblocks 17 on the under side engaging in slots 18, formed in the base. Thumb-nuts 19 engage with the screws for sunk or seated in the rule-sections, so that.
the outer surfaces of said heads are on a plane with the under sides of thesections, thus per mitting the whole device to lie closely upon the paper.
In operation when it is desired .toadjust the angles the thumb-nuts 19 are to'be loosened. Then the rule-sections may be moved relatively'to the base, Athe block portions 17 of the washers 16 permittingof a freemovement.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and Patentv 1. A triangle, comprisinga longitudinallyslotted base-rule, angle-rules pivotally condesire to secure by Letters nected together, set-screws engaging withl said angle-rules and passing through the slots in the base, and braces pivotally connected to the base and to the angle-rules, substantially as specified.
2. In a triangle, a longitudinally-slotted base-rule, angle-rules pivotally connectedto- `gether, washers having block portions eX- tended into the slots in the base-rule, screws passing through said washers and engaging l with thel angle-rules, thumb-nuts on the screws, and braces pivoted at one end to the base-rule and at the other end to the anglerules, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing. witnesses.
EDWIN H. WATERBURY.
