Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. ne
FRANZ A. BARTELMEZ, for New vonk, vN. Y.'
g' PAoKfAeE.
spxsmca'non farming pm of maar; raient NQ. 660.141.' ma october 2s, tooo. Appnmm snagtprii 12.1900.. me no. lass. nu am v To all whomI t may concern:
Be it known that. l, FRANZ A. BARTELMEZ, a citizen ofthe United States, residing in the city, count-y, and Stat-e of New York, have in'- vented certain new and useful Improvements in Packages. of which thefo'llowingis a specification sndicient to enable others skilled in the art to which the invention appertains to quickly and conveniently removed for use when desired.
'lhe invention consists in a special form of hox or package hereinafter shown and deV scribed specifically, in the combination with` two protecting and stiiening sheets between which the carbon-manifolds are contained, Said protecting-stiifeners being vreadily inserted or withdrawn from the receptacle and performing;r the function of a slide or drawer by means of which the carbon-manifolds may be wholly or partially withdrawn from the packageto admit of the removal of one or more of the carbon-sheets and again quickly and conveniently inserted in position within the receptacle .without danger ofv derangement or rupture, as hereinafter set forth.
An incident-al feature of my invention con-A siste in the use of sliding etiieners which are non-absorbent i'n character, so as to retard the drying out ordeterioration of the manifold-paper between them.
-In the-accompanying drawings, Figure l is A a plan of the blank from which myimproved redept-acle is formed. Fig. 2'is a view of the same, the parts being folded and secured together with the flap open and showinga por tion of one of the sliding stiifeners. Fig. 3
is a longitudinal section of the package, uponan enlarged scale, the central portion being broken away and the flap being shown as closed. Fig. 4 is an sometrical perspective of the package, showing the sliding stiffenere and manifold-paper partially withdrawn, the
outer end of the upper sliding etiiener beingA shown as raised to give access to the sheet of carbon-paper to he used. Fig. 5 is a trannverse section of the package and contents uponl an enlarged scale.
The blank B, of which the package P is formed, is shown extended in Fig. 1, the
dotted lines b b. indicating the lines atwhich the blank is folded. These lilies may he scribed or scored, if desired, in any convenient manner to facilitate the bending of the material and insure a correct. alinement of the parte.v v
In forming the package the fold B' is first bent over the main portion of the blank and the opposite fold B1l is then bent over so as to overlap the edge of the fold B', in which position the two are secured together by any conveniente? well-known'expedient, as hy the use of an adhesive agent or otherwise. 'lhe end fold B3 is then bent over vand secured in position in like manner, the flap B4 being then folded so as to overlap the edges b b of the folds B' B2, but not secured thereto. Thus the Hap B m'ay be turned back freely upon the lines b2 b? to open the package and afford accesa to the contents thereof. In this connection it will be noticed that the edges b b' of the folds B* are purposely formed so as to converge toward each other cent-rally, thereby exposing and giving accessto the sliding stiieners S S and the carbon-sheets C when the iiap B is thrown open. rlhe V-shaped opening formed bythe converging edges b' b' facilitates the grasping of thesliding stifeners Shy the fingers when it is desiredv to withdraw'lsaid sliding stifteners for the purpose of extractinga carbonsheet from between them. ".'Ihe folding lines' b b of the comparatively stili blank are arrangedso as, to create a permanent welidefined internal space p of parallelepipedal" form adapted to receive and accommodate the flexible slidingstiffenersS with the sheets.
thereby maintaining the carbon-sheets in a comparatively free loose condition with rolation to the stiieners S and to-each other, a
very important advantage when the sticky *n smudgy nature of the manifold-sheets is taken into consideration. The stiffeners, while relatively much stiffer than the carbon-,sheets -95 of carbon-manifoldsA between them without Y. f subjecting the same to pressure in any part,
may be made of any desired material, as of Vcom paratively stiff cardboard, dac., and they are preferably rendered non-absorbent for the purpose of more eiectnally protecting the earbon manifold-sheets between them and retarding'the drying' out or deterioration of said carbon-sheets.
'lhe slidingr sti tfeners may be made of nonabsorbent material having the required stiff' ness and flexibility, or may be treated i'n any 'zouvenient or welllknown manner to render them non-absorbent.
W'hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A package for 'containing carbon manifoldsheets without subjecting the same to preesnre., consisting;r of afblank B of comparatvely-stil materia folded on the lines b, 11, to create a space p, of parallelepipedal form, in combination with flexible sliding,r stiffeners S, S, titting in said space p, and adapted to profeet and 4presen-'e the? alinement of carbon manifold-sheets placed between them, and to actin eonjnnclionto facilitate the insertion or ivithdrawalof thesame as set forth, said St-itener5 S,S,havingsutiici ent liexihility to admit of their being,r bent outward to give ae'cese to vthe carbon-manifolds when the lut- A ter are partially withdrmvn from the package asv herein deecribed.
2; A 'package for containing carbon manifold-sheets withont. lsnbjeetin'rthe same t-o pressure, vonsieling of ablank l,of comparatively-stiff' material folded on the lines 1:, I, torreae a space p, of wirnllelepipedal form, in combination with sliding stilleners S, S, filtingin said space. j), and adapted to prnlect and preserve the alinexnem of'carbon FRANZ A. il-EARTHLMEZ.
