BACK-BAND BUCKLE AND TRACE-CARRIER.
SEIEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 659,004, dated October 2, 1900.
Application filed July 7, 1900. Serial No. 22,788. (No model.)
the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has for its object to provide a simple and effective back-band buckle and trace-carrier that may be constructed of two sections only and will possess strength and durability and capable of being manufactured at a comparatively-small cost; and the invention consists in a back-band buckle and trace-carrier constructed substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a front elevation of a portion of a back-band, showing my improved buckle and trace-carrier connected thereto; Fig. 2, a central longitudinal vertical section thereof; Fig. 3, a perspective view of the back plate; Fig. 4, a similar view of the front plate.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a slotted back plate, and B the slotted front plate, which together constitute the back-band buckle. These plates are constructed with the longitudinal slots at I), respectively located near their upper edges and through which the back-hand 0 passes, as'
shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The plate A is formed with the usual trace-hook c, with which the link or ring d of the trace engages, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. This plate A differs in construction from the usual back-band-buckle plates in that it has a locking-tongue D to hold the plate Bin engagement therewith when the two plates are connected together. This tongue D is integral with the plate A and is stamped therefrom and bent up at a right angle to the plane of the plate, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings. This tongue is on line with the trace-hook c and immediately below the slot a.
In order to increase the thickness of the bearing-surface which supports the link or ring d of the trace, a double thickness of bearing-surface is provided in forming the plate B with a similar hook e, the two hooks engaging each other, as shown, thereby providing a reinforce for the hook c and increasing the thickness of its wearing-surface.
When the two plates A8 are together, the tongue D will extend through the longitudinal slot 1) ofthe plate B and seat itself in the groove fin the loweredge of the slot b, thereby holding the two plates A B together and preventing the lateral or sidewise movement of theplates by the shoulders h at the extremities of the groove f,with which the edges of the tongue D come in contact.
The upper edge of the plate B is notched, as shown at g, to better engage the fabric of the back-band O and prevent it from slipping laterally after the buckle has been connected to the back-band by passing the band through the slots at b of the plates.
A very simple and effective back hand buckle is provided with only two pieces or sections, dispensing entirely with pivot-pins, clamps, and other separate devices or attachments which would greatly increase the expense of manufacture and detract from its strength and durability.
The tongue D serves the double function in forming a lock for the two plates A B when connected together and preventing them from moving sidewise and also as a keeper for the link or ring d of the trace to prevent it from becoming accidently detached from the tracehook.
truce-hook a groove at the lower edge of the slot and a notched upper edge, and a slotted buck-plate having a tongue extending at at right; angle to the plane thereof and passing through the slot; of said front plate and engaging the groove, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
