INITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
HENRY ROSE'NBAUM, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
WALL, FLOOR, OR CEILING FOR BUILDINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 65 8,869, dated October 2, 1900. Application filed February 11, I899- b'erial No. 705,315. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY ROSENBAUM, a resident of Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Walls, Floors, or Ceilings forBuildings; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable, others skilled in the art to which it pertains to' make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in facing-bearing bricks, blocks, or slabs; and it consists more especially in a brick, block, or slab of the character indicated that has its facing provided upon its rear side with a rearwardly projecting and declining lug or lugs extending into the body portion of the brick, block, or slab, and thereby supporting the facing from the body portion without necessarily employing cement between the facing and the body portion.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a perspective view of a brick or block embodying my invention. Fig. II is a transverse section on either one of lines II II, Fig. I. Fig. III is a back view of the facing. Fig. IV is a front view of the body portion.
Referring to the drawings, a designates the body portion of the brick or block, and 1; represents the latters facing. The facing is provided upon its rear side, in the case illustrated, with two lugs b b, that are arranged a suitable distance apart longitudinally of the facing and project rearwardly and downwardly, and each lug b engages a corresponding hole a, formed in the forward side of the body portionthat is, the body portion in its forward side is provided with two-holes or recesses a a, that are arranged a suitable distance apart between the ends of the brick d1 or other additional means in attaching the facing to the body portion. I have shown, however, a layer of filling-forming cement c, interposed between the opposing surfaces of the facing and body portion, because cement will not only firmly unite the lugs 79 to the walls of holes a, but will form a uniform and.
even bearing for the back of the facing.
What I claim is- As a new article of manufacture, a facingbearing brick having the facing and the body portion com-posed of separate pieces, and having the facing provided, at its rear side, with two downwardly and inwardly projecting lugs that are arranged a suitable distance apart longitudinally of the facing and engage corre- I sponding holes formed in the body a substantially as shown, for the purpos fied.
day of February, 1899.
HENRY ROSENBAUM.
