UNITED STATES PATENT OFFicE.
ISABELLE O. LINCOLN, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
SPOOh-STAND.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 658,186, dated September 18, 1900. Application filed December 4; 1899. Serialllo. 739,162. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISABELLE 'C. LINCOLN, a citizen of the United States, residing at .00- lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool-Holder Attachments for Sewing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention; such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates more particularly to the kind of holder that is designed to receive a plurality of spools of thread and has means for looking all the spools in the holder, so as t to prevent the removal of any spool bodily,
but permit the unwinding of the thread from any spool as fast as it may be needed for use. As is readily inferred, such holders are 'intended to prevent or render difficult theft of thread by the operatives in factories or workshops.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of this sort of simple and economical form; and my invention consists in the improved construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and Fig. 3 is a central sectional view.
Like characters of reference in the several views designate corresponding parts.
The frame consists of the lower disk or plate A, having an upwardly-extending circumferential flange A, and the upper disk or plate 13, having a dependent circumferential flange B. Fixed to or formed on the upper side of the lower disk A is a series of concentrically-located pins a, having enlargements a near their upper ends. The lower disk or plate is also provided with a central socket or opening a to enable the holder to be rotatably placed upon a suitable projection on a sewing-machine. The lower disk also has projecting from its upper side a loop or staple a that is about-the same height as the pins 11. The upper disk B is made with holes I), that just permit the passage of the upper ends of the pins or. The enlargements a therefore act as stops to keep the upper disk at the proper The upper distance above the lower one.
-a look, all substantially as I diskis also made with a hole 1), through which the upper end of the staple a projects when the upper disk is down against the stopso of the pins. If a padlock C be fastened to this projecting end of the staple a as shown, the upper plate cannot be removed. Small eyes or thread-holes are made in the flanges A and B, through which the thread is passed to the machine.
Before the holder is delivered to the opera= tive the pins ct are supplied with spools of thread and the upper disk placed and locked thereon.
The dependent flange of the upper disk, while it excludes dust, lint, &c., to a great extent from the holder, does not preclude sight of the spools, thus enabling the operative at all times to note the size, color, and character of the thread. This dependent flange also stiifens the edge of the disk and prevents unauthorized bending for the removal of spools.
The upwardlyextending flange A of the lower disk also stiifens the edge of that disk, afiords place forthe thread-holes, and around corner under which the thread may pass to the machine.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r The herein-described improved spool-holder comprising in combination the following elements, to wit: the lower disk A flanged upwardly at its edge, upwardly-projecting pins (1 with shoulders at near the upper ends thereof on said disk, a centrally-located and upwardly-projecting loop or staple on said disk A,
the upper disk B, a depending flange B thereon not reaching to the flange A, perforations in said disk B to fit on the upper ends of the pins a, the disk B being supported on the projections 01/, and a perforation in said disk B through which the upper end of the loop or staple on the disk A passes to receive shown and do scribed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISABELLF. o. LINCOLN.
