/ TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be itknown that we, OSWALD I-InssnLnAcui-:n and Hanni' Monsra, of Detroit, in thc county of Wayne', and State of Michigan, have invented an improved Lemon-Squeezer; and we do declare hereby the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bcing'had to the accompanying drawings, making part of the specification, in which- Figure 1, sheet 1, is a vertical sectional view of the improved device, showing the plunger forced down into its cup.
Figure 2 is a section taken in the vertical plane indicated by red line x x in fig. 1.
Figure 3, sheet 2, is a sectional view, similar to fig. 1, showing thc plunger elevated from its cup.
Similar letters of reference indcat-c corresponding parts in the several figures.
This invention'relates to a nowand improved device for expressing the juice from lemons, which is designed to be attached to an upright standard, operated by a lever, vibrating in a vertical plane, so that considerable pressure can be applied to the lemons without much exertion.
The nature of our invention consists in the employment of a perforated concave-convex cup or strainer, for receiving and confining the slices of lemon during theact of expressing the `juice from them, and n. circular bracket, for supporting the perforated cup and keeping it in place over a vessel for receiving the juice, in conjunction with a vibrating slotted cam-lever, for raising and lowering a plunger, and applying the nccessar)y force for expressing thejuice from the slices, all being constructed as will he hereinafter described.
To enable others skilled in thc art to understand our invention, we will describe its construction and operation. v
l The frame which supports the pressing devices, consists of a wide base, A, having a standard, B, erected upon it. This frame may bc cast so as to present quite an ornamental appearance, andV at the same time be light and strong. To the front part of the standard B, and at a proper distance from the baseplate A, a circhlar bracket, C, is applied, which is designed for receiving a flanged cup, D, and supporting this cup over a vessel put upon the stand A for receiving the lemon juice. In practice, the circular' bracket C will be cast with the frame B; but if it is desired, this bracket may be cast separate, and bolted .to saidframc. The ripper surface or edge of the bracket C is parallel, or nearly so, to thc base-platc or stand A, and upon this edge the annular flan-ge a, of the cup D, rests, as shown'in the drawings. The cup D is of a concavo-convcx forui, with arsuitable number of pcrforntions through it toV allow of the free escape of juice. It may be made ot' wood,
glass, porcelain, or even of hard vulcanized rubber, and sulciently deep to have its sides cylindrical, as shown in the drawings, for the better' reception of a ilangcd-head plunger, E. The size and shape of the 'plunger E correspond to the interior cavity of the cup D,with the single exception that when the flange c on -t'ne plunger is brought down upon the llangc aof the cup, there will he space left below the end of the plunger for the pulp and skin et' the lemon slices afterpressurc, as shown in figs. 1 and 2. The flange c on the plunger is designed to prevent the crushing of lemon seeds, and the application of too much pressure upon the same, by
its contactv with the top of cup D, before the bottom of the plunger is brought fully down, as above stated. A
strong plate, F, having two cars, b b, projecting pcrpendicularly from its upper side, is secured centrally to the top of the plunger E, and between these ears b b a segment or cam, G, works freely. The cam is slotted and formed on the endl of a lever-handle, J, which is pivotcd to the upper front corner of the standard B by a i strong pin, e, as shown in igsl and 3. The plunger is attached to the cam by means of a transverse pin, y,
to which may beAapplied an anti-friction collar, g'. This pin y. and its collar pass through the curved slot 7L, so that when the free end ofthe lever J is raised, the plunger will be lifted out of its cup, as shown in lig. 3, and when said lever is ldepressed the plunger will be depressed and brought into its cup. This arrangement affords a very powerful leverage for depressing the plunger, and also admits of ready access to the cup D, by throwing the lever J up to the position shownin lig. 1, and then raising the plunger still further, 'if desired, in its slot.
Having described my invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Th-c construction ofthe frame of a lemon-squeczer of the parts and D, and a circular bracket, C, which latte-r is adapted for receiving and supporting a straining-cup, D, beneath a plunger, E,- substantially as described. v
. 2. The combination of the vibrating slotted cam-lever G J and plunger E with the cup D and its sup. porting segment C, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes described.

HENRY MOESTA.
