Be it known that I, Jgrlrll T. The present invention relates to n new nud impipvedconstruetion of thehloeks or rests or supports employed for the koels of vessels, when hauled or run into the docks for repairs, which construction is of such :i nature. that without necessari-ly descending intothe dock-,for eren pumping or otherwise removing the water therefrom, the several blocks, whether one or more, can he adjusted to the proper heights to accommodate the draught ol' the vessel whether large or small. ln the ncconipan \'ing plate ot' drawings my improved block or support foikecls to vessels is illustrated- Figure 1 being un elevation of one side of the same; and

A, in .the drawings, represents a keel-block, made according to the present; invention, und in three parts or sections B, C, and D, which are pluccd one above und on top of the other, with the lower one, D, ut' tho-series resting upon the upper side of u. block, E, iixcd in position in and to the bottom of the dock. The upper edge or side of block E has two parallel raised ribs, extending in the direetion'of its length, on which raised ribs, und guided by the saute, the uuder sido of the lower block section D i: arranged t-o be moved or slid. The `.:pper side of the block section C is horizontal or level in position, and on this rests the parallci and upper block section B of the keel-block, this upper block section constituting that portion of the keel-block with which tho keel of the vessel comes in direct contact or on which it directly rests. To one side of the upper block section thc upper ends of vertical rods L are secured, which rods, I :ctending down upon thc same sido of the kechhloclc, pass through vertical guide-tubes or passages M suitably located therefor, und by means of which the said block section is guided in a straight und direct vertical line or direction as it'riscs or lowers, or is lifted or nllcu'cd to fall, according as the wedge-shaped block sections are :nnred in or toward or drawn outward from and beneath the upper block section. To operate or draw the wedgeshuped block sections out, as above stutcd, cords or ropes N are hung to the eyebolts O at the larger ends of ern-.h of tiresome, by which ropesrif suitably passed er run over-pulleys to the top of the dock in which the hee! block is located, it is plainly apparent that the top of the said block, by properly pulling such ropes, can he readily, easily, und with no trouble lowered to the proper height or distance from the bottom of the doek to accommodate the draught of the vessel which may have been hauled or run into the same, without necessarily descending into the'doclc, or pumping, or odierni-e removing the water therefrom. To draw in the' wedge-shaped sections, a rope, P, is provided for the upper'one of the two sections, to which it is suitably hung therefor, :indu rope, Q, for the lower section. R, a. ratchet-har secured to lower block section along its upper edge, with the teeth of .i Lich ratchet-hor R a pnwl, S, on the upper block section, engages, and thus serves to hold the said upper section 'roin sliding or moving after being once set this paul being hung to a rock-lever or arm, '.l, hung to and upon .the inni-le of the upper block section, and provided with ropes at each end, that, being passed to the top nf the dock, enable euch pmrl to be properly operated for setting tho block section free, or iixing or holding themy in position. It muy be here observed that il: is intended to combine with the lower section of the block u. suitable arrangement of puwl and ratchet-bar to enable it to be fixed or held in position, or set free t'or being moved.
