TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME: y
Beit known that I, DOMINICO CHEEKENI, of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, lhave invented a new Rope-Dancer or Toy for Children; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view of my invention. l
This invention relates to a novel device by which a figure representing a rope-dancer-is made to perform peculiar movements; and consist-s of a platform to which are attached cross-trees for sustaining a rope, and a back rest for the dancer, together with' a rectangular 4ever, having at one end the rope-dancing figure, and at the other a set of bells and a finger-plate, so that when the finger-plate is pressed upon by a persons finger and raised alternately, the vbells will ring, making music, while at the-same time the dancing figure performsits.
movements on the r'ope. v
In the said drawings, A represents a hollow platform or hex, which sustains the cross-trees B B to which are attached the back rest C and rope D, on which the figure dances. There is also attached to the interior of said platform a rectangnlar-sl1aped lever, E, which playsin a fulcrum, F, connected with the platform. This lever E has on its forward end a finger-plate, G, which projects a short distance above the platform, and is for the purpose of operating the lever; and attached to said end is a series of bells, H, which are rung ou pressing. the finger-plate G, while on the otherenil of said lever is placed the rope-dancing figure I, holding a balancepole, K. i
The operation of my invention is as follows: The iigure I being placed face to face with the operator, n'ow, by pressingthe plate G downward with and quickly raising the finger, the plate G- will follow the finger in its ascent, because of the weight of the ligure I at-the opposite end ofthe lever E, and this movement of the fingerplate will impart to the figure I, (through the lever E,) the up-antbdown or dancing movements, and will also vibrate and ring the bells H attached to the forward end of said lever, thus making music during the performance of the rope-dancing figure I. v
I would here remark that the dancing figure I may be composed entirely or in part of papel; India rubber,
or any other suitable material, as well as of wax, and may also be made to represent other characters, male or or female. Furthermore the cross-trees B B, instead of being rigidly fastened, may be hinged to the platform and folded on the same, and the figure placed within the platform for convenience in transportation.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is-
The lever E, the bells H, the rope D, and figure I, or itsequivalent, in combination with the cross-trees B B and platform A, substantially as and for the purposes described and set forth.
In testimony whereof have hereunto set my signature.
DoMINIeo CHEEKENI.
