WATER BAG.

LORENZO M. HANSEN, 0F MOORESTOVN, NEV JERSEY.
WATER-BAG.
SECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 655,485, dated August 7, 1900.
Application filed March 15 1899.
-of which the following is a full, clear, and
exact description.
My invention relates to certain improvements in water-bags, the object being to provide a convenient and practicable means whereby a person suffering from fever or other disorder affecting the head may without inconvenience reduce his discomfort by attaching to his head a water-bag containing hot or cold water or other suitable liquid substance without the inconvenience of reclining his body.
My invention provides a means of attaching the water-bag to the head of a person to be treated without necessitating the use of strings, straps, or other like fastening devices.
My invention consists of a water-bag which may be composed of rubber or other desired material and a hood permanently attached to said water-bag, said hood adapted to be placed over and encircle the upper portion of the head of the person to be treated. Thus is afforded a means whereby a water-bag may be placed on the head without inconvenience.
My invention further consists of the novel features of construction to be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a vertical section of a water-bag embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view with the water-bag removed.
B designates a hood cemented or otherwise permanently attached to the water-bag A.
C designates the mouth and neck of the water-bag A, through which the said waterbag is filled.
D is a cap or plug shown in this instance as made of metal and provided with screwthreads adapted to engage with screw-threads in the neck C when lsaid neck is made of metal; but it is evident that the neck C may Serial No. 709,203. (No model.)
be made of the same substance as the waterbag A and the cap or plug D of any desired material. After the water-bag has been filled the plug or cap D is inserted into the neck C, thus preventing the spilling of the contents of the water-bag A.
Attached to theinner wall of the hood B, riv= eted or otherwise fastened, are ribs l and 2, said ribs being concave on their upper and lower surfaces and forming an arch or bridge on which the water-bag A rests, thus removing the weight of the water-bag and contents from the delicate portion of the skull of the person using my device. It is evident I may, if Irdesire, have more or less than two of the aforesaid ribs.
F and F2 are loops attached to the outer edge of the water-bag A, through which may be passed straps or strands of cord, the terminais of said straps or strands when tied together forming a bale or loop large enough to be passed under the chin of the person using said water-bag,thus affording a means of holding the water-bag A more rigidly in position.
It will be apparent that my invention provides in a very simple manner a water-bag which may be easily and quickly used on the head of a person without inconvenience.
It will be understood that while alleviating human discomfort is my first purpose, I may, if I desire, use my device for other than the purpose described, and it is further manifest that I may make such departures from the above specification as will not contravene the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination, a hood, a waterbag secured to and forming a top for the hood and a series of ribs within the hood adapted to form a seat for the water-bag on their upper surface and to conform to the shape of the head on their lower surface, substantially as described.
