Description

No. 655,425. Patented Aug. 7, I900. G. O. WAOLEIGH. COUPON TICKET BOOK. (Application filed Sept. 22, 1899.)
- (No Nodal.)
. H555 6mm a, WASNINGY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORGE O. W'ADLEIGH, OF HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS.
COUPON-TICKET BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 655,425, dated August '7, 1900.
Application filed September 22, 1899- Serial No. 731,280. (No model.)
being commonly indented or perforated on suitable line of division, which permits each leaf to be torn away from the back or body.
of the book and in most cases permits each leaf to be torn away in a plurality of sections, each constituting a ticket or coupon. Heretofore all the leaves of a book of this character have been of the same color. It frequently happens that the user of the book grasps two adjoining leaves and tears a conpon from each leaf without being aware of the fact that he has detached more than one coupon, all the coupons being of the same color, so that the undetached coupon that is exposed or uncovered by the detachment of the coupon which covered it affords no indication of the number of coupons that were detached in exposing it. In other words, the color of the exposed coupon is the same whether exposed bythe removal of one coupon or by the removal of two coupons. It is also to be understood that in coupon-books of this character all of the leaves are uniform.
in size and are uniformly printed. Hence there is nothing to enable the user to readily avoid removing two superimposed leaves or coupons without exercising considerable care.
My invention has for its object to provide a coupon-ticket book of this type, which shall.
visually indicate to the user by the color of the exposed undetached coupon whether a single coupon or two coupons, one superimposed on the other, have been detached; also, to facilitate counting of the tickets or leaves.
To this end the invention consists in a conpon-book comprising a series of leaves of a given tint or color and a series of leaves of a contrasting tint or color, each leaf comprising a plurality of detachable coupons and all of the leaves being substantially uniform in size and printed matter, the leaves of one series alternating with those of the other series, whereby the removal of a single coupon from any'leaf is caused to expose a coupon of a different color, the simultaneous removal of two coupons one above the other exposing a coupon of the same color as the outer removed coupon.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a coupon-ticket book embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a view similar to Fig. 1, showing an outer leaf, from which a single coupon has been removed, exposing a coupon contrasting with it in'color. Y
i In the drawings, a av represent a series of leaves of a given color, such as green, and b I) represent a series of leaves of a diiferent color, such as white. The leaves a a alternate with the leaves I) b, so that the completed book presents, first, a green leaf a, followed by a white leaf 1), which in turn is followed by a green leaf a, and so on. The leaves are provided with lines of perforations, which permit the separation of each leaf from the book, each leaf being preferably subdi vided in this manner into a series of coupons. If a single coupon is torn off, as shown in Fig. 2, the exposed undetached coupon below it presents a color contrasting with that of the displaced coupon, the user of the book being thus informed that only one coupon has been removed. On the other hand, if two coupons are torn ofi, one being superimposed on the other, the exposed coupon remaining in the book will be of the same color as the outer removed coupon, and thus the user of the book will be made aware of the fact that he has detached two coupons, and by the fact that the remaining coupon or coupons of the upper leaf has a color contrasting with that of the exposed undetached coupon of the leaf below the user is informed that the next coupon to be detached is the one from which the preceding coupon was detached. The described improvement also facilitates the operation of counting the leaves or coupons.
I claim- A coupon-book comprising a series of leaves of a given tint or color, and a series of leaves of a contrasting tint or color, the leaves comprising detachable coupons and being substantially uniform in size and printed matter, the leaves of one series alternating with those of the other series, whereby the removal of a single coupon from any leaf exposes a coupon of a different color, the simultaneous removal of two superimposed coupons exposing a coupon of the same color as the upper removed coupon.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
