FRANKLIN KING CHASE, OFTAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SPECFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 6575,194, dated August 7, 1900. Application led Ieoember'l8,1899. VSerial No. 740,743. (No model.)
liush against the Wall, thus requiring a minimum amount of space.
With these objects in view my invention consists in certain novel parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be specifically described hereinafter, recited in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove or range embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section onthe line 2 2of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal transverse section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a similar view on thewline 44 of Fig. 2, and Fig 5 is a top plan View of the Warming-shelves. Fig. 6 is a detail view of the removable plate.
Referring now to thedrawings by referencenumerals, 1 designates a stove or range which may be of any ordinary construction, to the top of which is arranged a panel 2 along the edge of the side containing the smoke-outlet 3. This smoke-outlet will preferably be arranged centrally of the stove, to one side of the longitudinal center, and will be surrounded by the projecting pipe-collar 4. On the top of the panel 2 is secured by any suitable means a shelf 5, provided with an opening G of about the same size as the pipe-protecting casing 7, the respective ends of which lie tightly against the stove-top and the under side of the shelf. A second panel 8 rests upon the first-named panel and is removably secured thereto by means of the side brackets 9 and 10, which support on their top edges the second shelf 11, projecting from the top edge of the panel 8. To add rigidity to the panel 8 and the entire structure, the forwardly-projecting iianges 12 and 18 are cast or otherwise secured on the respective ends thereof which coincide with and are secured to the brackets 9 and 10, respectively, by suitable bolts 14. The top shelf is also provided with an opening of about the same size and which alines with the opening 6in the shelf 5.
15 is a removable substantially I I-shaped plate secured in a registering opening in the panel 8 by suitable screws or bolts 16.
To add a finish-to the structure heretofore described and provide a back for the shelf 11, a third panel or shelf-back 18 is arranged and provided with a suitable fanciful design, such as may suggest itself to the manufacturers of this invention.
Having thus described the construction of the invention, I will now proceed to describe its application and the means of operation.
After assembling all the parts suppose it is found that the pipe-opening in the chimney is on a line with the top of the stove. The pipe can be connected directly with the collar 4 by an elbow, when the stove can be forced directly against the Wall. Should the chimney opening be opposite the middle panel, the plate 15 can be removed and aline v of pipe run up Jthrough the pipe-casing until it is opposite the opening after passing through the opening in the first shelf and connected to the chimney by an elbow. If the due-opening is about on a line with the top of the second shelf, the middle panel can be reversed, causing the 1-shaped opening to be reversed (thus U) and the pipe can be manipulated, or if the hole is above the top panel the pipe can be run up above the entire structure through the alining openings in the respective shelves and connected to the chimney by an elbow, as before described. Thus it will be seen that I provide for securing the pipe-line directly to the chimney without unneccessary delay and with a minimum amount of labor.
What I claim as my invention'is--l 1. The combination with a stove and the pipe-opening thereof; of a shelf secured to said stove and carrying a casing open at top and bottom, a panel above said casing provided with an opening at right angles to the top opening of the casing, and a removable ssl IOO
plate normally covering the opening in the panel, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a plurality of shelves designed to be secured to a stove; of an open-ended casing carried bysaid shelves and registering with the pipe-opening in said stove, the top of said casing terminating at movable and reversible panel connecting two of the shelves and having an opening through which the pipe can project the position of which is adapted to be changed bythe reversal of said panel, substantially as' described.
4. The combination with a stove and its pipe-opening; of a panel arranged thereon; a casing carried by said panel and registering With the collar, a shelf projecting from said panel and provided With an opening register-A ing with an opening inthe top of the casing and 'a removable plate secured to the rear of the panel and casing, substantially as described. 5. The combination with a stove and its pipe-collar; of a panel arranged on one side of the stove, a casing carried, by said panel and covering said collar, a shelf projecting from said panel and having an'opening in alinement with an opening in the top of the casing, a second panel secured tothe rst panel, having an opening, and a removable plate normally covering the last-named open ing, substantially as described.
i 6. Thecombination with a stove and its flue-opening, of a casing surrounding said opening, a panel secured to the stove and casing, a shelf projecting from the panel and having an openingin line with the flrstfnamed openings, a reversible panel secured to the first-mentioned panel and provided `with Van openingfat rightv angles tothe opening in the shelf and a second shelf projecting from the last-named panel also having an opening therein, substantially as' described.
In testimony `whereof Iax my signature l in presence of two witnesses. 4
