NITED STATES PATENT Orrin FRANK P. KRUGER, JR., AND FREDERICK F. CRANE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. SAID CRANE ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FIFTH OF HIS RIGHT TO SAID KRUGER, JR.
TIE FASTENER ANf) EXPANDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part'of Letters Patent No. 651,867, dated June 19, 1900.
Application filed November 7 1899- Serial No. 736,111. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK P. KRUGER', Jr., residing at New York, in the county of New York, and FREDERICK F. CRANE, residing at New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings, State of New York, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie Fasteners and Expanders, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it apper= tains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tie fasteners and expanders; and the object thereof is to pro vide an improved device of this class whereby neckwear may be positively secured and artistically disposed in position.
With this and other objects in View our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which like reference characters denote like parts in the separate views, ,and in which- Figure 1 is a front View of a portion of male attire, showing in dotted lines atie with which 'attire our improved fastener and expander is connected; and Fig. 2, an enlarged perspective view of our improved fastener and expander.
In the practice of our invention we provide a spring-clasp 3 of the ordinary or any desired form, consisting of two pivotally-connected and tensionally-operated members 4 and 5, each of which is provided with teeth 6, by which they may be engaged with a shirt or other article. One of said members, as 4, is provided with an inwardly and upwardly directed ear 7, with the outer face of which are connected pivotally by a pin 8 a pair of rigid arms 9, each of which is provided at its outer end with a spring-clasp 10 of the ordinary or any desiredform. The inner ends of the arms 9 are preferably formed into flat heads, through which the pivot-pin 8 is passed.
In practice the clasp 3 is connected with the shirt, which we have shown at 10, and the arms are spread to engage with the sides of the loose portion or body of the tie, which we have partly shown at 11, the said loose or body portion thereof being shown in dotted lines, the arms 9 being sufficiently spread to expand the tie, as desired, and also retain the tie in position with relation to the other articles of attire.
It is manifest that the device above described is susceptible to adaptation for fastening and supporting a variety of articles of attire, and we do not further wish to limit ourselves to the exact form and arrangement of parts described, but reserve the right to vary the same within the scope of our invention.
Having fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A device of the class described, comprising three clasp devices, two of which are connected with the other by means of arms pivoted thereto, substantially as shown and described.
2. A device of the class described, comprisinga first clasp device, a pair of rigidarms pivotally connected therewith and each providedwith a fixed clasp device, substantially as shown and described.
' 3. A device of the class described, comprisdirected ear, and a pair of arms pivotally connected with said ear and each provided with a clasp device, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention we have signed our names, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 30th day of October, 1899.
