Be it known that I, TIMOTHY F. TAFT, ofv Shrewsbury, in the county pf Worccster,end Commonwealth ofV Mnssachusetts, have invented a. certain new and useful Improvement in Machines for Cutting Sheet and Bar Metal, and known asfLocleShears', and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the samefrefcrence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in whichl Figure 1 represents perspective View of a. pair of loclshec1s with my improvement applied thereto.

The nature of my invention lconsists in the use, in combination with a.connecting bolt, of two arms .I J", cast upon the main p iece'or frame A. The operation is ns follows: The end of the sheet of metal to be cut is passed betweenv the cutters or blades Gr (iQ-and the pieceor strip which is being. cut olif is bont down slightly by the operation, and slides freely under the angle formed by the bottom of the ripper jaw, indica-ted by the lower dotted line O, while the strip yor sheet/.of metal held in the'hnnd, and from which the strip or piece is being out, slides freely over the upper'surface of the lower jew, indicated by the Aupper dotted line 0, which is ou aline with the top of the stationary blade or .cutter Gg, so that strips of :my desired width and length can be cut, one part passing back o fvthelock, while the other part passes in front of the` lockY Having described my improvement in lock-shears, what I claim as new, and of my invention, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
