IMPROVEMENT IN GLASIS FOR HOOP-SKIRTS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Befit known that I, W. E. HOUSTON, of Birmingham, in the county ot New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Clasp for Hoop-Skirt; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute a part of this specification, and represent a face view of the hoop ,and clasp. l

This invention relates to an improvement in the manner of securing or clasping the two ends of the hoops of hoop-skirts, and consists in clasping the two ends in the ordinary manner, and then corrugatingdiagonally the clasp upon opposite sides, the corrugation upon one side being at n reverse angle to the corrugations Aupon the opposite side.; and in order to the better understanding of my invention, as well as to enable others to construct the same, I will proceed to a description thereof, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

The two ends A and Bof the hoop are secured together by a clasp, C, in the usual manner.' And when so clasped, place the clasp between dies or other device which will corrugate the two sides of the l clasp upon the wire, the corrugations being diagonal and at reverse angles uponvopposite sides, as denoted by red and blue lines. in thev drawing. These corrugations impress into the covering of the wire, and securely hold the two en'ds together, and without indenting the wire, In the [irst act of clasping, it is not essential that the clasp be closed so tightly as when not to be corrugated. Thus the common clasp is made to hold the two ends together in the most perfect manner.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.

Securing the two 'ends of hoops by a clasp corrugated thereon diagonally, and at reverse angles, upon opposite sides, substantiallyas described.
