Nitrat) STATES PATEN TWICE@ EDVARI) II. TURNER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DICE-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Letters Patent N0. 647,621 ,dated April 17, 1900.
Application filed October 6, 1898. Serial No. 692,791. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ lac/0m, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improveinentsin Dice-Boxes, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to improvements in abox or receptacleto be used forholding dice.
In playing games such as backgammon, pachisi, and other games in which dice are used it is customary to employa cup or box, in which the dice are shaken and then tossed or rolled on the board or table. In using such a box or cup the dice frequently roll from the table or board to the door, thus causing much inconvenience and loss of time, and besides when the common open box or cup is used the dice may be manipulated or loaded dice substituted, thus enabling the thrower to cheat in playing the game.
It is therefore the principal object of my invention to furnish a dice box or receptacle in which the dice will always be visible and will be retained within the box, thus preventing access thereto or loss thereof.
Another object of my invention is to provide a box of the above-described character which shall present, when the box is at rest, a plane surface and without any projections or ledges within the cavity of the box, thus preventing to a great extent cocked dice.
In order t0 enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawing'.
The gure of the drawing represents a central vertical sectional view of the dice-box, which consists of two semiglobular sections B2 and B3 of glass or other transparent material whose meeting edges are provided with rabbets a to engage each other. The section B2 of the box is formed with a shallow cavity b', having a fiat or plane surface, between which surface and its outer surface the said section is made solid, as at b2, or maybe otherwise weighted. The section B2 is formed with a cavity b3, partly spherical in shape.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A dice-box, comprising two transparent sections secured together, said sections having their outer surfaces rounded and provided with an internal cavity, one of said sections being Weighted and provided with a plane surface within its cavity and above said weight, substantially as described.
