To on whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, I-IATTIE O. CROPLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Washington, District of Columbia, have .invented certain new and useful Improvements in Convertible Hot-Water Warming Appliances, of which the following is a specifica tion, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the filling-apertures, showing only the main bag or receptacle inflated. Fig. 4 is alongitudinal sectional view showing the main bag i11- hated, the supplemental bag being deflated and lying close against the main bag. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view showing both bags inflated and a footin the foot-warming pocket, and Fig. 6 is a detail view of a modified form of closure device.

The object of the invention is to provide a device adapted for use as an ordinary hotwater bag, and which in addition may be formed into a foot-warmer by inflating a supplemental bag to form a pocket surrounded by hot water, into which pocket the forward parts of the feet may be placed.

The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.

Referring to the various parts by numerals, l designates a main water-bag, which is shown substantially flat and may be of any desired size and is constructed of any suitable thin waterproof flexible material. This bag is provided at its forward end with a filling-opening 2, which is provided with a removable closure device 3. Secured to the upper side of this main water-bag, at the forward end thereof, is a small and flat supplemental water-bag 4, which is also formed of thin flexible material and is provided with an independent filling-opening 5, closed by a removable closure device 6. This supplemental bag is about half the length of the main bag; but it is equal thereto in width and is cemented or otherwise suitably secured at its outer marginal edge 7 to the corresponding outer edge of the main bag and when deflated main bag. The rear transverse edge 8 of this supplemental bag isunconnected to the main bag and forms,'with the main bag, the mouth of a pocket 9, which is closed except along the edge 8 and is adapted to receive the forward parts of the feet when the device is used as a foot-warm er. Secured between the bags at the rear corners of. the supplemental bag are the ends of the heel-strap 10, which when the device is used as a foot-warmer engages the feet of the user above the heels, as indicated in Fig. 5, and holds the device in position. This strap or securing device may be of any. suitable material and of any desired form. It may be a loop, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, or it may be two strings or tapes, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and it may be elastic or non-elastic, as is found desirable.

2 and 5 are shown as formed by dividing a tube 11 by a central wall 13. In this way the two passages are contiguous and a single filling cup or funnel 14 may be employed. This is advantageous in that the receptacles maybe simultaneously filled.

In Fig. 6 is shown a single closure device, which closes the filling-openings of both bags and also prevents the contents of either bag from flowing into the other bag. This single closure device may be used instead of the two independent devices shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 5. In this construction the stopper 15 is threaded into the mouth of the filling-tube and bears on the end of the wall 13 and closes both filling-passages.

. "It is desirable that communication between the two bags be prevented in order that the device may be successfully adapted to the double use for which it is designed.

It will be readily seenthat when the two bags are inflated a very convenient and ef fective foot-warmer is provided which will receive both feet, the forward parts thereof be ing entirely enveloped in the pocket formed by the two bags and the heel parts resting on that part of the main bag which extends beyond the rear end of the supplemental bag. When it is desired to use the device as an ordinary hot-water bag, the main bag only is inflated, as shown in Fig. 4, the supplemental bag remaining deflated and lying close again st lies close against the upper surface of the said the upper surface of the main bag out of the way. It is desirable that the supplemental bag terminate short of the rear end of the main bag in order that the heels of the user may rest on the main bag and be warmed. In this way practically the entire foot will be immediately warmed without the necessity of employing an expensively made footwarmer of shoe or boot shape. The upper surface of the main bag and the inner surface of the supplemental bag may be suitably covered, if desired.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a hot-water appliance, the combination of a flexible main Water-receptacle formed with afilling-opening, aflexible supplemental water-receptacle secured to the upper side of the main receptacle and forming therewith a pocket for the feet, said supplemental receptacle being also formed with a filling-opening, means for closing said filling-openings and preventing communication between the two receptacles.

2. Ahotrwaterappliancecomprisinga main water-receptacle, a supplemental water-receptacle connected to one side of the main receptacle at one end thereof and also at its side edges and being of less length than the main receptacle, a pocket being thereby formed between the two receptacles, the mouth 01" said pocket being transverse of the main receptacle, and removable means f or reraining water in said receptacles.

3. In ahot-water convertible appliance, the combination of a main water-receptacle, a supplemental water-receptacle secured to one side of the main receptacle and of less length than the main receptacle, a pocket being formed between said receptacles, the month of said pocket being transverse to the main receptacle, said receptacles being formed with filling openings, and removable closure means for closing said filling-openings and preventing communication between the two receptacles.

4. In a hot-water convertible appliance, the combination of a main receptacle provided with a filling-opening, a supplemental receptacle secured to one side of the main receptacle and forming therewith a pocket whose mouth is transverse to the main receptacle, said supplemental receptacle being provided With a filling-opening, an independent removable device for closing each of the said fillingopenings, and means for securing the device to the feet.

5. In a hot-waterconvertible appliance, the combination of two flexible receptacles secured together, a foot-warming pocket being formed between them, an independent filling passage or tube for each receptacle, said passages lying side by side, a single filling-cup surrounding the outer ends of said passages or tubes, whereby the receptacles may be simultaneously filled, and removable means for closing'said filling-passages.
