Description
Patntd Mar. 27. I900.
L. BERGER. TURNEBS CHISEL.
(Application filed Oct. 24, 1899.)
(No Model.)
IN VE N 70/? WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS BERGER, OF LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND.
TUR NERS CHISEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 646,257, dated March 27, 1900.
Application fil d October 24, 1899. Serial No. 784,687. No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS BERGER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at 6 Place St. Francois, Lausanne, in the Republic of Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Turners Chisels, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists of a turners chisel formed of a piece of steel of square or other section, which is provided with a longitudinal hole or cavity intended to render the same easier to be sharpened than a chisel of similar section not provided with such axial hole or cavity. The said chisel may be fixed to a handle in any suitable manner whatever for instance, by screwing the same to a piece of iron. v
The accompanying drawings show by Way of example one form of execution of the invention; but I do not limit myself to the form or shape of the chisel as represented.
Figure 1 is an elevation of a turners handchisel, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section through line A B of Fig. 1.
The body of the chisel 1 is in the drawings of square section, and it is provided with a cylindrical hole 2, bored through the whole length of the said body.
3 is a piece of iron to which is screwed the body 1, which is made of steel, and the said piece 3 is intended to be fixed into a wooden handle. (Not shown.)
4 is the beveled surface, which is to be milled when the chisel is to be sharpened. It will be readily understood that the said surface to be milled. is considerably reduced by the existence of the hole or cavity 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim- A turners chisel, consisting of a main body having the same cross-section throughout and provided with a longitudinal bore from end toend, and a handle secured to the main body, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres- 'ence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS BERGER. [L. s] Witnesses:
E. IMER-SOHNEIDER, TH. MERL.
