Description

NITED STATES LEVI J. STONE, OF OARTHAGE, MISSOURI.
SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.
sPEorFIoA'rioN forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,694, dated Maren e, ieoo.
Application filed August, 1899. Serial No. 726,088. (No model.)
To all whom it may concrn:
-Be it known that I, LEvr J. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carthage, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to shade-roller brackets, and more particularly to that class of brackets which have a vertical adjustment with respect to the window-frame, by means of which the shade-roller may be raised or lowered the entire length of the windowframe.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable, and inexpensive device of this character, which may be easily and quickly adjusted to the different lengths of shade-rollers.
To this end the invention consistsin certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a window-frame, showing my improved shade-roller bracket applied to a shade-roller. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the bracket before it has been adjusted to a roller, and Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the condition of the bracket after it has been applied to a shade-roller.
In the drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
1 denotes the window-frame, 2 the shaderoller, and 3 the bracket or hanger. The bracket consists of two pieces of wire of proper strength, each of which has one end extending vertically and is provided with a bearing for the roller and terminates in a hook t. The other horizontal ends of these pieces each have an eye 5 arranged in the same plane as the horizontal portion and engaging the opposite portion of the other piece and sliding thereon.
A looped cord 6 is connected to the hooks 4 and then passes through screw-eyes 7, secured to the Window-frame. One end 9 of the looped cord hangs downwardly in front of the side of the Window-frame and engages a clamp 10. y
As the manner and means for raising and lowering the shade-roller are well known to persons skilled in this art, afurther description of the same is not thought to be necessary, as that part of the device is not claimed as my invention. It is in the construction of the bracket by means of which shade-rollers of different lengths may be easily and quickly secured in place that I consider the gist of my invention. In connecting the bracket to the shade-roller I engage the pintles at the ends of the roller with the apertures in the vertical portions of the bracket and then adjust the horizontal portions of the bracket to the length of the roller. After I have done this I take a suitable tool and twist the horizontal portions of the wire together, thus se curely retaining them in position and the roller in place.
It will be noticed that the eyes 5 are in the same plane as the members of the hanger or bracket, so that when the eye of one member is engaged with the eye of the opposite member the members between said eyes are sprung apart, and this spring serves to hold the bracket-sections in proper adjustment to the roller-pintles before the tool is applied to twist the sections in the position shown in Fig. 3. It is apparent that after the parts have been twisted together, as shown in Fig. 3, the eyes 5 are caused to more firmly bind or kink the horizontal parts of the hanger 3 than they would if they projected from said parts at right angles.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
As an article of manufacture, a shaderoller bracket consisting of two parts each of which is formed with a vertical portion provided With a bearing-eye and with asubstantially-horizontal portion provided with a terminal guide-eye, the eye of the horizontal portion of one part of the hanger engaging the horizontal portion of the other part of the hanger, said horizontal portions being bowed to cause the guide-eyes to frictionally bind IOO the substantially-horizontal portions and. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set thereby hold the parts in their initial adjustmy hand in presence of two subscribing Witlnent to the roller, said bowed horizontal pornesses.
tions being adapted to be twisted together to LEVI J. STONE. 5 retain them in a permanently-adj usted posi- IVitnesses:
